POSITION DETAILS
The CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) is an intensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program for CUNY students who need to improve their academic English language skills. Classes meet five hours a day, five days a week (in morning, afternoon or evening sessions). Students who have been accepted to any CUNY college can spend up to one year in the program. CLIP is a content-based program where students learn English through studying topics in American history, literature, environmental studies, and more. In this way, students build knowledge and academic skills as they develop their English language skills. CLIP students also learn the computer skills they need for college.

Reporting to the Director of the CLIP program at Queensborough Community College, the Academic Program Specialist - Assistant Director is involved with all academic aspects of the program and also oversees activities and processes designed to facilitate students??? matriculation. The candidate must be a flexible, dedicated team player. The Academic Program Specialist- CLIP Assistant Director???s duties include but are not limited to:
Participates in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and orienting part-time and full-time faculty andstaff;
May work with instructors to develop new theme-based curricula;
Assists with student recruitment, orientation, placement testing, exit testing, and advisement;
Assists the Director in planning professional development activities;
Assists in supervising tutors, may serve as a liaison between tutors and instructors;
May arrange for substitute teachers when necessary;
Responsible for student enrollment, attendance monitoring and retention activities;
Oversees the development of academic programs and utilizes technology in their delivery and administration;
Oversees the norming and scoring of placement and exit essay exams and subsequent placements;
Provides students with information about different college degrees, majors, and programs;
Facilitates students??? exit from the program and matriculation to QCC???s academic degree programs;
Assists the director with community outreach and recruitment of new students;
Prepares analytical and statistical reports as required by campus leadership teams and the CUNY Office of Academic Affairs;
Serves on Divisional and College committees;
Interfaces with other departments and collaborates with Testing Office for departmental testing, including the scheduling of test dates;
Collaborates in activities that foster continuous program improvement and development for ESL students across campus;
Ensures compliance with diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives on campus;
May act on behalf of the Director, in instances, to oversee all aspects of the administration of the program;
Must be able to work some evening hours.
Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' relevant experience required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Master's degree in Applied Linguistics, TESOL, Higher Education Administration, or related field.
-At least two years of teaching experience working with adult English language learners.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills, especially the ability to communicate effectively with management, staff, and students.
-Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills, especially experience troubleshooting student and staff concerns.
-Experience using technology for educational purposes.
-Superior organizational skills and experience managing multiple tasks and projects.
-Experience working with diverse populations.
-Prior CLIP, supervisory, or adult education program administration experience.

Participates in the daily coordination of academic and administrative activities of a College's specialized academic program under management direction.
Supports program development, student service delivery, outcome evaluation and instructor/student recruitment, enrollment, and retention.
Recommends, implements and evaluates strategies to expand program offerings
Prepares analytical and statistical reports for management
Develops and maintains relationships with various College offices to improve student and faculty services
Serves as resource expert regarding program policies and procedures
Oversees office recordkeeping; manages updates of program web and print materials
May supervise office operations and/or department budget
Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$70,238 - $75,465.Salary commensurate with education and experience.
