Choate Rosemary Hall is hiring a Licensed Mental Health Counselor on a temporary one-year (academic year) basis.  The Licensed Mental Health Counselor is an academic-year staff member primarily responsible for providing direct therapeutic support and counseling services to students. As a member of the counseling team, the individual works collaboratively with other counselors, other members of the Health and Wellness department, and psychiatric providers (both internally and externally, when applicable).

Direct Student Services (within the scope of the individual's license, training, and experience):

• Completes clinical assessments;
• Provides individual and group counseling;
• Is available to respond to students' emotional and mental health crises during the school day and when on call;
• Maintains strict rules of confidentiality,
• Maintains electronic case notes and other documentation via electronic case management software (e.g. Medicat) in an appropriate and timely manner, as required by State law and Health Services policies and procedures;
• Adapts counseling techniques to ensure equitable and respectful care and support for students with diverse cultural beliefs and practices, from varied backgrounds, and with varying degrees of health and wellness literacy;
• Serves as counselor-on-call during assigned days/weeks each term;
• Recommends a student leave of absence when indicated, and assists in implementation of a leave of absence when, and if, approved.

Collaborative and Consultative Services:

• Practices as part of, and consults with, our interdisciplinary, inter-professional team of mental health and medical professionals;
• Engages, communicates, and collaborates with parents, faculty, administration, and other professionals as appropriate, while maintaining strict rules of confidentiality;
• Consults and coordinates care with outside providers;
• Assists with community wellness programming;
• Serves as a adviser to a health- and wellness-related student organization and/or initiative, as assigned at the discretion of the Director of Counseling or Associate Dean of Students for Health and Wellness; and
• Attends and regularly engages in required school commitments for faculty and required all-school, faculty, and departmental professional development.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM KSA’S (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES) REQUIRED FOR PLACEMENT IN POSITION

• Master’s degree in a mental health discipline (e.g. psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, or social work).
• Demonstrated experience providing licensed, direct psychological services to adolescents;
• Demonstrated understanding of and training in the delivery of culturally competent care;
• Two years of experience in independent boarding schools or residential colleges preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
• Must be currently licensed by the State of Connecticut.
