The Director of Student Connections is responsible for the overall design and coordination of strategies to guide and support first year students (new and transfer), facilitates focused efforts to support first year student enrollment, enhance persistence and retention, strengthen student engagement, and promote pathways toward completion. The Director engages and collaborates with partners throughout the University to develop coordinated strategies to support students' entry and transition to college; promote academic preparedness and success; promote engagement in student life, academic/career development activities; and actively assist students as they work through a pathway of academic and career readiness achievement toward goal completion. The Director is responsible for the assessment of first year student outcomes and recommendations for strengthening practices.
The Director for Student Connection Programs provides overall success in directing new student orientation, coordinating the University's first-year seminar for new students, coordinating Living and Learning Programs (in partnership with housing and residence life) collaborating with partners across campus in the design and implementation of the first-year experience, as well as any special programs or activities with the intent to welcome and engage the entering student. In alignment with the University's mission, vision, and culture, the accomplishments of Student Connection Programs will be achieved through, retention, and progression engagement best practices led by the Director.
Required Qualifications:
Master's degree in higher education administration, student development, or related field, or commiserate experience.
Excellent organizational, communication, supervisory, and leadership skills to support the Student Connection Programs team.
Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain, lead, and evaluate continuous improvement efforts of student programs to promote the success of new freshmen and transfer students, as well as assisting commuter, transfer, and 1st year students make the important connections needed to be successful in college.
Demonstrated ability to supervise team members to ensure all responsibilities continue to move students towards retention, progression, and graduation.
Experience providing oversight of the training and support of student leaders and faculty who deliver orientation, transition, and retention programs offered under the auspices of Student Connection Programs.
Demonstrated skills to collaborate with other campus partners in the design and implementation of special programs and activities intended to welcome and/or recognize new students and families, including, but not limited to, New Student Convocation; Welcome Week; Family Weekend; and other welcome events that occur on campus.
Knowledge of best and competitive practices in student onboarding and programmatic support of these initiatives through high-impact practices (e.g., learning communities), especially as they affect the recruitment, retention, and progression of students.
Experience managing budgets for student programming and planning events.
Preferred Qualifications:
Terminal degree in higher education administration, student development, or related field, or commiserate experience with at least 5 years' experience.
