Job Summary: | The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is searching for a Learning Support Specialist to help coordinate daily operations of the academic mentoring program, plan and execute learning support and advising programming, and help supervise and train student staff. This includes organizing one-on-one and small-group academic mentoring by request, programming study events, and facilitating the formation of study groups and accountability groups. They serve as an academic advisor to a small group of students and work closely with other staff to promote the overall mission and objectives of CAE.
The Learning Support Specialist is part of the Academic Advising and Academic Mentoring team within CAE. CAE is home to several initiatives that support student success in the College of Letters and Science (L&S), including the Summer Collegiate Experience (SCE); the L&S STEM Scholars Initiative, and the CAE Cohort program. These programs work together to offer an enriching, inclusive community for L&S students who are from low-income or rural backgrounds, or the first in their family to attend college. CAE provides a variety of engagement opportunities to students, including holistic academic advising, peer and academic mentoring, paid research opportunities, health and wellness events, social events, graduate school and career preparation, and connection with learning communities to facilitate learning and collaboration. Responsibilities: | Contributes to the development, implementation, administration, coordination, and evaluation for one or more academic programs to ensure effectiveness in meeting departmental and student development goals and initiatives. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment. - 35% Utilizes independent judgement regarding development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation for one or more academic programs, initiatives, or events
- 20% Identifies program, needs, contributes to the development of unit workflows, schedules logistics and secures resources for meetings, events, and interviews
- 10% Coordinates program components and evaluates program effectiveness and provides recommendations for improvement
- 15% May supervise the day to day activities of one or more academic programs and resolves issues exercising discretion to meet unit goals.
- 20% Provides holistic academic advising and participates in activities and programs that support the mission of CAE.

Qualifications: | Required: --Commitment to fostering an inclusive and safe learning community. Some understanding of issues and challenges faced by students underrepresented in higher education and a desire to learn more. --Experience with data gathering, entry, and manipulation in programs such as MS Excel, Google Sheets, and Google Forms and a desire to learn more. --Ability to engage in holistic advising, including transition to university, financial literacy, wellness, academic skills, connection with resources, and more. --Ability to communicate effectively and interact positively with staff and students. --Strong organizational skills; ability to work independently and complete multiple short- and long term projects.
Preferred: --At least one semester (summer included) of experience working with students in a secondary and/or higher education setting. --Some full- or part-time experience working with students in a secondary and/or higher education setting, especially in a tutoring or teaching capacity. --Understanding of the psychosocial factors that affect college-level learners and a desire to learn more. |

Salary: | Minimum $44,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The typical starting salary for this position is $44,000 to $58,979 depending on qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is $41,244 to $76,714. Additional Information: | This position requires occasional evening and weekend work.
This position usually works in-person on campus but is eligible for up to one remote day per week after onboarding and training are complete. |
