The Student Conduct Specialist is part of a team that shares responsibility for administering complex and sensitive student conduct matters for the UC Davis campus (approximately 40,000 students) in the Division of Student Affairs. This position interprets, reviews, analyzes, recommends and applies campus and system-wide policies and procedures. Responsible for resolving difficult student conduct cases that significantly impact the campus community, require the coordination of multiple units/responders and resources, and have serious safety, security, and liability implications, as well as potential impact on the campus reputation. Interact regularly with students, faculty, campus administrators, staff, police, and parents. Provides information, interpretation, and recommendations related to student conduct policies and interpersonal conflict. This role is instrumental in supporting students and Registered Student Organizations (RSOs) around issues of academic integrity and social misconduct. When matters result in a violation, individual will be responsible for developing sanctions through a lens of student development theory and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Each Student Conduct Specialist will have an area of coordination/focus in which they will develop expertise and provide leadership, but will support the overall team and cases as workload necessitates. The areas of coordination/focus may include the following:
Campus Judicial Board Coordination: Recruits, selects and trains all student, staff, & faculty members of the Campus Judicial Board. This may include regular trainings throughout the year. Designate hearing panel, prepare evidence, and provide resources related to advisors.
Registered Student Organization Coordination: Closely collaborates with the Center for Student Involvement staff on addressing and resolving any alleged misconduct involving a Registered Student Organization. This may include leading and coordinating investigative interviews and writing reports.
Community Outreach & Education: Promote a proactive approach with students, faculty, and staff to support integrity on campus. Identify opportunities to build relationships and expand community understanding of services. Create and update outreach materials for presentations and tabling requests. Build curriculum for various educational presentations for students as well as faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree, and two (2) years of relevant work experience
Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural humility. Communication skills to listen, write and speak effectively and professionally about sensitive subjects to faculty, students, staff, and others.
High degree of professionalism with strong ability to work effectively and efficiently with internal and external individuals at all levels.
Skills to understand, analyze, interpret, evaluate, and apply policies and procedures in accordance with university policy and legal requirements. Some examples may include state and federal laws pertaining to student conduct, privacy, due process, and related fields.
Intermediate computer skills with word processing, presentations, and spreadsheets and high degree of comfort in learning and using new technology/software.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs, Counseling, Law or other related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
1-3 years or experience administering student conduct or conflict resolution in an educational setting. (2 yrs serving as graduate assistant = 1 yr full-time profession experience).
Work experience in student conduct/student discipline/conflict resolution on a college campus. Experience educating individuals about policy violations, consequences and strategies to improve behavior and seek assistance when necessary.
Experience in various conflict resolution pathways such as restorative practices, mediation, conflict coaching, and problem-solving to resolve complex, multi-faceted, and often emotionally-charged disputes and assist parties to reach agreement.
Experience working within a multi-cultural and highly diverse environment.
Knowledge of legal and compliance issues in higher education, including but not limited to, Title IX, Clery Act, and FERPA.
Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with regular interruptions leveraging a high degree of accuracy while meeting deadlines.

Department Overview
The Office of Student Support and Judicial Affairs (OSSJA) is a comprehensive office that manages both case management for students needing support as well as student conduct issues that arise. As it relates to the student conduct operations, this office manages academic, social, and registered student organization reports of misconduct, as outlined in the Policy on Student Conduct and Discipline. This office is currently evaluating opportunities to reduce barriers to accessing services, which may include a departmental name change, evaluating shifts to infuse further student development and inclusive-excellence-focused practices, as well as developing additional conflict resolution pathways.
