General Summary: The Assistant Dean of Academic Advising and Pathways is a dynamic, creative, and knowledgeable individual who is part of a leadership team that is responsible for the development and implementation of timely, diverse, and innovative advising services and programming. The Assistant Dean will lead advising staff in implementing equity-centered, data-informed, intrusive advising processes to close institutional gaps among all students. The Assistant Dean will play a critical role as Middlesex Community College becomes a Hispanic-Serving Institute (HSI) and in achievement of the College's RISE 15 student success metrics aimed at completion. The Assistant Dean will also collaborate with all student support programs, such as the SUCCESS program, a retention-centered program for Black, African American, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ students. Through open and transparent communication, the Assistant Dean will regularly make reports to the Academic and Student Affairs leadership as well as the President's Leadership Council and other stakeholders as required. In addition, working with the Dean of Education and K-16 Partnerships, provide consistent and thoughtful communication with the College's transfer partners, informing all stakeholders of changes in transfer policies or practices. The Assistant Dean is also responsible for all aspects of student advising, including pathways development and updating, academic transfer, management of Veteran Resources, Credit for Prior Learning, and the College's Equity Transfer Initiative.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee daily operations of the Academic Advising offices, ensuring equitable and efficient service delivery.
Supervise, evaluate, and support the professional development of advising staff.
Lead and Expand equity-centered, holistic/intrusive academic advising practices in the department, ensuring the practices align with the College's mission and its progress toward becoming a Hispanic-Serving Institute (HSI).
Collaborate with faculty and staff to create advising services and programming that support student retention, engagement, and completion.
Monitor and report on student success metrics, including the College's RISE 15 agenda.
Provide strategic oversight for student advising in areas including academic pathways, transfer processes, specialized populations, veterans, and adult learners.
Continuously improve advising services and academic pathway initiatives.
Collaborate with the Dean of Education and K-16 Partnershipsto maintain communication with transfer partners and keep all stakeholders informed about any policy or practice changes.
Work closely with retention-centered programs like the SUCCESS program to support Black, African American, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ students.
Engage in open and transparent communication with the Provost, Academic and Student Affairs leadership, and the President's Leadership Council.
Oversee programs such as the Veteran Resource Center, Credit for Prior Learning, and the Equity Transfer Initiative.
Provide student orientation, mentoring, and advising services to support student success from entry to program completion.
Promote and maintain responsive community relations.
Perform other related duties as required.
Job Requirements:
Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, or related field.
Minimum of five years of experience in academic advising, student services, or a related area in a higher education setting, with progressive leadership responsibilities.
Demonstrated ability to develop and lead equity-centered advising programs and academic pathways.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and inspire a diverse team.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Proven track record of fostering collaboration across departments and improving student outcomes.
Deep understanding of the challenges faced by underrepresented student populations in higher education.
Knowledge of best practices in advising and student retention strategies.
Experience with budget management and resource allocation
Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.
Additional Information:

Location: Bedford campus with occasional travel to Lowell as needed
Hours: 37.5 hoursper week, schedule to be determined upon hire. This position will be eligible for a maximum of two days of telework in accordance with the College's telework policy.
