Compensation: Salary Range $50,000 - $55,000 commensurate with experience plus full New York State benefits package.

Description of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Associate Director of Leadership Development in the department of Student Engagement and Leadership (SEL), the Coordinator for Civic Engagement & Community Service is responsible for designing and facilitating civic engagement opportunities that provide students with experiences that create awareness of issues and challenges facing the campus, community, and society as a whole and allow them to advance their learning in areas related to diversity, community, advocacy, and inclusion.

Situated within the Division of Student Affairs (DSA), Student Engagement and Leadership (SEL) accomplishes its work through leadership development; civic engagement; support for student organizations including fraternities, sororities, and by offering engaging, fun, and educational activities and programs.

The Coordinator leads SUNY Oswego's initiatives on student participation in civic engagement and community service including days of service, alternative break experiences and cultural immersion trips. The Coordinator recruits and supervises student employees and/or student volunteers, assists with strategic planning, and acts as a liaison to campus and community partners and national associations that relate specifically to the work of civic engagement and community service.

Some evening and weekend hours are required. In an ongoing commitment to staff well-being, the Coordinator has the opportunity to accumulate flex time during the academic year; and with necessary approval, work a partial remote schedule of 4 days in office, and 1 day remote per work week when classes are not in session.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop a mastery of learning outcomes-based approaches, including the Curricular Approach. In collaboration with SEL Leadership, implement student programs, events, programs, and other initiatives that support student learning opportunities related to department's learning outcomes and engender a sense of belonging.
• Maintain an up-to-date understanding of national best practices and literature on college student engagement, student inclusiveness and belonging, and community well-being and retention.
• Facilitate and cultivate SUNY Oswego's relationships with national and regional civic engagement organizations and competitions.
• Serve as the primary advisor for SUNY Oswego's Civic Engagement and Community Service Clubs and collaborates with Vote Oswego, Shining Waters, Constitution Day, 9/11 events, and other similar events. Oversees SUNY Oswego's Alternative Break program, which encompasses budget management assistance, student and faculty/staff volunteer recruitment and training, and risk management oversight.
• Serve as a resource for individuals, departments and student organizations interested in volunteering and community service.
• Serve as a resource for community agencies and organizations needing volunteers.
• Actively participate with the university's Civic Engagement Coalition.
• Develop and implement community service programs that are rooted in the leadership model of the department and provide students the opportunity to engage in the process of solving community issues.
• Create and maintain a system to record and track community service performed by students for campus reporting requirements.
• Provide supervision and/or guidance to Graduate Assistants, Student Interns, Volunteers and Group Leaders.
• Assist the SEL Leadership with the planning and delivery of signature department events including but not limited to the ALANA Leadership Conference, Student Involvement Awards, Student Involvement Fairs, Annual MLK Celebrations, and the I Am Oz Diversity Speaker Series.
• Assist with department strategic planning, and assessment to advance the achievement of department, division, and institutional priorities.
• Serve on department, division, and campus committees as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Experience in college/community collaborations
• Understanding of civic engagement and community service practices

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in higher education administration, college student personnel, or a related field.
• A minimum of 1-3 years working experience in student affairs or a related field.
• Prior experience with non-profit, community service, and/or voter education programs.
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through co-curricular programs.
• Demonstrated understanding of how to increase student sense of belonging and engagement.
• Effective communication skills.
