Job Purposes::
Under the general direction of the Director, the Disability Specialist with an emphasis on Campus and Community Recruitment and Outreach is responsible for the provision of programs, services, and accommodations for students with disabilities. This role involves a dynamic blend of providing direct support and accommodations to students, alongside actively engaging in outreach and recruitment efforts within the campus community and beyond. This position supports ODS efforts in the area of recruitment and outreach through attendance at College Fairs, WSU Admission and Orientation Events and other campus and community outreach initiatives.
Required Qualifications::
Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Rehabilitation Counseling, Education, Special Education, or a related field and five years of related experience or Master's degree in human services, education, rehabilitation counseling, technology domain, or related discipline and three years of related experience.
Experience/training in providing general advising, student success counseling, career, academic and/or other support to transitioning college-bound high school students and/or continuing college students.
Excellent oral communication and writing skills.
Consistent in tracking activity and measuring outcomes
High level of affinity for data and technology
Competence in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications::
Clear knowledge and understanding of the application of Section 504 and the ADA especially in the higher education context.
Ability to recognize legal risk associated with certain disability issues.
Demonstrated knowledge of all categories of disabilities and appropriate accommodations in an academic environment.
Ability to interpret psycho-educational assessments.
Ability to use advanced techniques in spreadsheet, database, and/or presentation software.
Ability to handle multiple assignments concurrently and re-prioritize; ability to successfully adapt to rapid change.
Ability to work collaboratively and to foster effective relationships.
Essential Functions and percent of time::
50% Disability Accommodations Support
Determine program eligibility and accommodations through an interactive process with students.
Provide extensive direct support to students with disabilities at the Dayton and Lake Campuses.
Appropriately supports students with disabilities by referring students to campus resources and support services.
Serve on divisional and college-wide committees as requested by the Director.
Responsible for supporting and implementing any reporting obligations in coordination with the General Counsel's Office.
