The College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University (OSU) seeks a Post-Doctoral Scholar in Higher Education and Student Affairs, with a focus on college impact and outcomes. The Post-Doctoral Scholar will oversee the EDiCTS 2.0: Drive to Thrive (Enhancing Diversity in Career & Technical Education), a mixed-methods project on mental health/wellness and financial literacy in automotive technology associate degree programs. The candidate will also support a research team on initiatives within the College Impact Laboratory (https://www.coil-impact.org/).
Successful candidates must be knowledgeable about mixed-methods data collection and analysis. Candidates must productively navigate competing responsibilities, deadlines and manage the day-to-day responsibilities of the research team. The candidate must also be willing and able to travel domestically for data collection during the fall and spring semesters up to 50% of the time.
The Post-Doctoral Scholar, supervised by Professor Matthew J. Mayhew, will have numerous opportunities to author or co-author journal articles, conference proposals, and op-eds based on the available data. There are also opportunities to become involved in conceptualizing new projects and writing grant proposals in collaboration with other team members. Possibility of hybrid/remote work within the state of Ohio. A completed Ph.D. in a field related to education or the social sciences is required.
Required Experience: Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in a field related to education or the social sciences is required. Experience in project management and large-scale research efforts. Familiarity with conducting rigorous mixed-methods research. Superb organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to multitask and delegate. Understanding and experience with community colleges and/or mental health/counseling.
Desired Experience: Demonstrated effort to communicate educational and/or social science research through papers, conference proposals, and/or presentations. Experience in data collection and management software (e.g., Dedoose, Qualtrics), data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, STATA, R), and data visualization tools. Understanding of community college scholarship and practice. Experience (either research or professional) in mental health, wellness, and/or financial literacy.
60% Oversee the execution of EDiCTS 2.0: Drive to Thrive in collaboration with Professor Matthew J. Mayhew, the Research Director, and a dedicated team of doctoral students. Responsibilities will include designing, piloting, and administering surveys, recruiting community colleges partners, managing site visits to the community colleges, facilitating wellness modules, recruiting research participants, conducting in-depth qualitative interviews and focus groups, and managing project data. The Postdoc will spearhead data cleaning, coding, and analysis, delegating tasks accordingly.
25% Project dissemination by co-author publications based on project data including papers submitted for publication in peer-reviewed journals, national conference proposals and presentations, and other pieces in public-facing media as opportunities arise. Communicating with the granting foundations, prepare summary reports, and conduct other tasks relevant to the research projects. Write new grant proposals and collaborate on designing and initiating new projects.
10% Assist with the execution of INSPIRES and TRT/InFORM in collaboration with Professor Matthew J. Mayhew, and a dedicated team of doctoral students. Responsibilities will include recruiting research participants and managing project data. The postdoc will support data cleaning, coding, and analysis, delegating tasks accordingly.
5% Other duties as assigned.
The Target Hiring Range for this position is $61,008 - $65,000.
