Villanova Preparatory School a private co-ed Catholic Augustinian college preparatory day andboarding school located in beautiful Ojai California is seeking an experienced Coordinator of EnglishImmersion Support and Resident Life Academics for the 2024-25 academic year. Villanova Preparatory School operates under the ownership of the Order of St. Augustine in Californiaand is accredited by the Western Catholic Education Association and the Western Association of Schoolsand Colleges. The school attracts highly talented and highly motivated students seeking a qualityeducational experience rooted in the Catholic Augustinian tradition. The primary responsibility of the Coordinator of the English Immersion Support (EIS) Program is toeffectively support international students’ acquisition of spoken and written English skills to enable themto be successful in Villanova’s core curriculum. The Coordinator of the program is responsible forproviding leadership to the Villanova faculty in the area of English language development and academicsupport to students. In addition the EIS Coordinator also oversees the academic support of the ResidentLife program.
The duties of the EIS Program Coordinator include: Be present to instruct students in the Resource Center or classroom at designated times Sundaythrough Thursday. Collaborate with the Director of Resident Life during the orientation of students new to theresident program. Ensure quality and effective teaching methods and lesson planning for all EIS/ELD instructors. Act as liaison with classroom teachers and students to identify content material and skills requiredfor individual students’ academic achievement and support the development of those skills and content knowledge. Instruct students in grammar writing vocabulary and content material to support theirachievement in academic courses. Organize regular study groups in content areas which help students develop vocabulary criticalreading and writing skills. Be familiar with the California Standards for English Language Development for grades 9-12 andalign EIS support with the standards. Identifies instructional and/or equipment needs that will enhance the EIS program. Proposes and tracks budget expenditures to address the needs of the EIS program. Provide materials to students and teachers which support English language development andsupport student achievement in the Villanova curriculum. Provide in-service or training to faculty on best practices and strategies to meet the needs ofEnglish language learners. Assess students’ English language proficiency by administering the TOEFL test and Test of WrittenEnglish twice each year. Report student progress to administration and classroom teachers. Regularly communicate with parents and guardians of resident students regarding academicprogress. Attend Academic Council and English Department meetings representing the EIS Department Be present and participate in staff meetings as needed. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Headmaster In addition the Resident Life Academic Support duties include: Meets regularly with resident students on academic progress and college preparation. Provides support for resident students in meeting the academic requirements of Villanova. Regularly communicates with the Villanova administration resident staff teachers and counselorson matters related to resident students. Oversees the Resource Center as a study center for resident students. Is prepared to write letters of recommendation for resident seniors applying to colleges and forscholarships upon request. Regularly communicates student academic standing and important school information to residentparents and students of Villanova. Coordinates with academic counselors on planning academic classes for resident students toensure graduation requirements are met. Oversee academic improvement plans for success for resident students. The ideal candidate: will have an advanced degree in English and TOEFL (or equivalent) certification. holds a California Teaching Credential or equivalent. a minimum of five years serving as an English as a Second Language teacher and/or coordinator. is a team player who will work collaboratively with the Resident Life program faculty andAdministration. values supports and promotes the Catholic Augustinian tradition of Villanova Prep. is professional organized positive honest and self-motivated. has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. is proficient and comfortable with using technology. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area. Minimum of five years experience working with high school level ELL students. Eligible to work in the State of California and is able to pass a background check. Salary Range: $50000-$71000 based on an internal salary schedule that factors in experience andacademic degrees.
