Summary of Position: The Director of Career will focus on building relationships with students at IWU on the Marion campus and increasing their participation in career programming, one-on-one career advising, vocational assessments, and networking events with employers. The Director will work with the Associate Dean of Life Calling & Career to help students build professional relationships for their future internships and employment. This role involves strong relationship building skills, strong listening and communication skills, and an interest and understanding of careers and skills needed within various industries. The Director will regularly present on career related topics in classrooms and workshops.
Duties and Responsibilities
Counsel students regarding the application of life calling as applicable to career choice and development
Administer and debrief career assessment instruments in one-on-one and group settings
Supervise Career Graduate Assistant
Advise students regarding resume writing, interviewing, job search skills, and other professional development topics
Assist students in pursuing internships
Create and deliver presentations regarding career topics in the classroom
Implement marketing campaigns to promote student participation in career coaching services, ultimately increasing student and alumni participation in career coaching
Provide students with relevant occupational, educational, and employment information to help them explore a broad range of career options and professional development strategies
Utilize Handshake software to administer email communication to student body on Life Calling and Career resources and events and monitor appointment analytics
Actively serve on CAPE Grant Review Committee
Attend Grant County TALENT Coalition meetings
Guide students in the development of their Handshake and LinkedIn profiles
Oversee the “Career Closet” collection, recording, and display process
Maintain resources for students on employment trends
Supervise and train Career Coach and Career Student Intern(s)
Build relationships with students and gain student interest in career advising
Represent career & life calling at Visit Days, New Student Registration, Job Fairs, and other programs
Work collaboratively to create and execute year-end report
Work with the Director of Life Calling to develop a seamless coaching program that will facilitate the understanding and implementation of life calling into career decisions
Event planning, scheduling, and coordination
Provide a variety of career readiness services for university departments and 1,400 IWU student workers
Build and maintain relationships with campus employers and assist in assessment processes of student work performance
Work with the Director of Life Calling to build a strong representation of department events and resources to the IWU community
