GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The first face that students see in the Office of Student Equity, Inclusion, and Support (SEIS) will be an important part of welcoming students to this space. Being part of creating a welcoming culture of safety, understanding, and support will be some of the most important elements of this position. As the Office Assistant to SEIS, you will be helping students navigate how to apply to programs housed in the space, collect documentation, assist with appointment scheduling, and support special program event needs. You will help create and develop a space that is welcoming, create a space where students have the freedom to be themselves, and create a space where students, visitors, and community members feel valued and heard when they walk through the SEIS suite doors. This role sometimes will support other Student Services front desk operations including the information desk(s), student food Pantry, and Dean of Students office.

• Receive students, visitors, and community members to the SEIS office; outreach by phone, receive and route telephone calls, and stay up-to-date on best communication styles by office staff.
• Create a welcoming space for the front suite lounge area for students, staff, and community members.
• Schedule appointments and make reminder calls for program Staff.
• Receive, ensure accuracy, and upload applications and documentation.
• Contribute to a team that is committed to improving diversity, equity and inclusion; seek professional development and seek opportunities to learn more about equity seeking student populations.
• Be a support system to program staff with on and off-campus community programming and student inclusion work.
• Serve as a liaison between SEIS and other departments; Stay up to date on changes to Iowa Hall and division procedures and policy changes.
• Support department events: planning, preparation, and implementation.
• Perform other related work duties as assigned.

• You will participate in required HR training and communicate any updates to new processes to SEIS program staff, students, and community members who visit the office suite.
• You will provide outstanding customer service and serve as a positive representative of the department and the student services division to improve student learning and success.
• You will establish and maintain good team working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, faculty, administrators, and the public.
• You will have strong oral and written communication skills and a working knowledge of commonly used communication tools including email, Zoom, Calendly, Skype, Outlook, etc.
• You will be committed to understanding diversity within and among equity-seeking populations and your attitude and decision-making reflect that understanding.
• You will manage sensitive student information with integrity, following college guidelines about confidentiality and respecting student privacy.
• You will welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences; as well as support and promote an environment that accepts differences.

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing, pushing, pulling and grasping, lifting to 50 pounds. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

• High School Diploma
• Experience with common office software and computers
• Any combination of clerical experience and/or post-secondary training that is equivalent to one year of employment OR a certified secretarial degree is required.
• Must have working experience with common office software, including word processing, spreadsheet and database software

• Associate's Degree
• Previous experience in educational settings with diverse backgrounds or social services setting is preferred.
