The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky seeks qualified candidates for the position of Student Success Coordinator. The Gatton Academy is a public residential STEM program established and funded by the Kentucky legislature. It is located on the campus of Western Kentucky University. Students complete their last two years of high school in the program while earning at least 60 hours of college credit. This is an 11-month position that reports to the Assistant Director of Academic Services. Gatton staff are employees of WKU.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are customary for this position but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
Academic Counseling
Provides academic counseling for individual Gatton students to help them develop the skills and habits necessary for success
Provides academic intervention through regular meetings with and academic plans for students as necessary
Communicates with Gatton parents about academic and attendance issues
Academic Support
Creates and coordinates academic study opportunities within Gatton (e.g. peer tutoring, exam reviews)
Supervises and coordinates student workers hired as tutors, study hours monitors, and office assistants
Monitors student attendance and implements attendance policy as needed
Coordinates student absence approval and communication to faculty
Serves as Gatton liaison with WKU faculty
Facilitates progress reports for Gatton students, including but not limited to 5th and 11th week checks
Co-leads Student Support Team meetings
Coordinates academic competition participation (e.g. Envirothon, Science Bowl, various Olympiads)
Promotes special academic programs such as the Genome Discovery and Exploration Program and STEM + Global Studies
Registrar
Serves as academic advisor for Gatton students
Coordinates academic scheduling
Registers students for WKU courses
Reviews student transcripts to ensure students meet Kentucky state graduation requirements in addition to Gatton graduation requirements
Coordinates student transcript updating
Serves as Gatton liaison with sending school counselors
Coordinates research contracts between Gatton students and WKU faculty mentors
Compiles and submits KEES data for seniors
Provides leadership and supervision on Gatton study abroad trips
Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:
Excellent interpersonal skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks with competing deadlines and frequent interruptions
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, Mathematics, Science, or related field.
Graduate coursework in Counseling, Education, or Student Affairs.
Experience in high school or college academic advising.
Experience in academic counseling.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $40,000 -$46,000
