This position supports underrepresented students and their families, both as prospective and current students. Aid in student attendance, retention, and success at the University, as well as, provide staff leadership for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI). Enhance recruitment initiatives by attending college fairs and assisting with visit days as needed. Positively affect retention by creating a dynamic, supportive community for students on campus through organization, advising, individual outreach, mentoring program development and other targeted success initiatives. Responsibilities:
Retention of current students; utilize and develop programming for the Multicultural House; lead the development and enhancement of ODI’s Peer Mentoring Program by coordinating sessions, events and curriculum; provide shared leadership of ODI’s Summer Enrichment Program and mentoring of students; attend University wide events to represent ODI
Recruitment of prospective students; develop and execute pre-orientation and Turning Titan specific events/programming for underrepresented students and their families; partner with Admissions and travel to Chicago, as needed
Advising Council for Inclusion and Awareness (CIA); assist with the development and execution of Inclusion and Awareness Week; assist RSOs that would like to become part of the CIA; advise RSOs under the CIA umbrella as needed
Supervision; supervise the retention-centered peer mentors, volunteers and ODI student workers, management of Multicultural House and ODI physical spaces.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required
One year of related experience; student mentorship/supervisory experience, working with diverse populations, strong cultural competency, knowledge of student development theories is a plus
Valid Driver’s License; In-state travel, as needed (Chicago and surrounding suburbs)
