Position Overview:
Working in close coordination with the Access Team in the Admissions office, the Admissions Officer for Diversity, Outreach, and Access helps manage the division’s partnerships with critical external groups to ensure that Carleton continues to improve its recruitment and retention of students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in higher education.
Reporting to the Associate Dean and Director of Diversity, Outreach and Access, the Admissions Officer will be centrally involved with the division’s outreach, recruitment and enrollment of bright, highly engaged, and diverse students with an eye towards enhancing the College’s profile with important programs and community-based organizations.
Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:
Participates in all aspects of the general admission cycle, including:
Maintaining a recruitment territory, working in consultation with the Director and others to design and execute targeted recruitment travel.
Reading of first-year and transfer applications; with the intent to recommend students for admission.
Leading information sessions, to provide a refined overview of the liberal arts experience at Carleton.
Conducting on- and off-campus individual interviews, to assess a student’s interest in and fit for admission.
Advising prospective students on admission and financial aid policies and practices in written and verbal communication.
Reporting and monitoring.
Serves as a member of the Admissions Access Team.
Represents the College to external agencies and groups, including attending regional, national, and international conferences and meetings to maintain the College’s visibility.
Works to create and encourage an open, welcoming, and inclusive environment in admissions that actively supports prospective students and their families.
Leverages Technolution’s Slate CRM to communicate, recruit, and monitor engagement with students, parents, college counselors and other relevant influencers.
Coordinates special projects/tasks and/or provides assistance to divisional programming and events, as assigned, with particular attention to partnership, CBO, and travel subsidy programs.
Additional Job Responsibilities:
Will also be expected to perform other assignments deemed necessary by the Associate Dean or other senior members of staff.

Reports to the Associate Dean and Director of Diversity, Outreach and Access.
Education/Experience/Skills (supported by job duties):
Required:
A bachelor’s degree is required.
A valid driver’s license and passport.
Strong understanding of the nature and aims of a selective, residential liberal arts college.
An eagerness to implement and promote anti-racist policies in both big picture and day to day work.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Enthusiasm for and demonstrated commitment to supporting a student body that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and religion, among other factors.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex issues with clarity.
Evidence of creativity and innovation in problem solving and strategy implementation.
Demonstrated aptitude for counseling students and families.
Strong organizational and project management skills, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
A willingness to work extended and weekend hours during peak periods.
Leadership skills: Highly collaborative, dynamic, empathetic, and patient.
Preferred:
Demonstrable entry-level admissions experience
Proficiency or fluency in a language other than English.
Prior experience with and knowledge of Slate CRM.
