STDT SVC ADVISOR 3 (Orientation Program Coordinator)
Job Summary
Under primary supervision of the Orientation Associate Director and general direction of the Director of New Student Academic Services (NSAS), this position works in partnership to develop, implement, & evaluate the campus-wide Orientation experience including Aggie 101, Aggie Advising, academic advising & retention initiatives, and Aggie Orientation. In collaboration with the Orientation team and key campus stakeholders in academic and student affairs units, this position develops and delivers inclusive, effective and robust educational programming that eases the transition of 9,500+ new UC Davis students and their families annually. They manage program development and provide day-of event support during Orientation programs. The program coordinator team oversees over 600 student staff in multiple, distinct student leadership positions. They collaborate to recruit and hire a staff representative of the student body, design and instruct training curriculum, delegate and manage student workload, and create an employment environment focused on leadership development. Position works in tandem with 3 other Program Coordinators providing academic transition support for all four Colleges via the implementation of the UC Davis New Student Orientation Program. Provides supervision of the Orientation student staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

A minimum of 2 years of full-time, professional (career) experience in university level large scale program development, implementation, and assessment at a four-year university with first year and transfer students.
Demonstrated experience applying student affairs and student development theories, strategies, practices & principles to the equitable orientation, transition, and retention of a diverse student body.
Experience recruiting, selecting, training, evaluating, and motivating student employees.
Experience in supervision to hire, assign and direct work, evaluate and reward performance, ensure performance accountability and otherwise discipline student staff employees from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated problem-solving skills and experience to anticipate, identify, evaluate and respond to difficult issues including personnel, program and customers.
Experience demonstrating effective, diplomatic interpersonal and communication skills across teams and settings, in person and using various technologies, to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives to build collaborations, mutual respect, fairness and equity.
Project management skills to identify and prioritize duties effectively, work under pressure of deadlines, heavy meeting schedules, sizeable numbers of student contacts, and uneven time constraints and maintain a high level of productivity in a dynamic, fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Preferred Qualifications
A Master's degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, orientation or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education & experience.
Demonstrated experience utilizing political acumen to effectively develop programmatic partnerships with academic and/or administrative departments and students at a large research university.
Demonstrated experience with developing and facilitating engaging training curriculum and educational programming, including integrating technology into the educational experience.
Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, adaptability, independent decision making, and analysis of complex information and data to make programmatic recommendations and changes.

At times, the position requires staff to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, stoop, and apply proper body mechanics when working.
The Orientation office will supply hand carts and provide safety training to staff. Teammates can also assist you in tasks that involve lifting and carrying materials.
Work Environment
Office area located in shared/common space with students, professional staff, visitor traffic and noise from on-going meetings, telephone conversations, etc.
Full time position. Must be able to work varied hours to meet operational needs. Work occasional weekends and holidays with restricted vacation during and in the weeks preceding the Aggie
Orientation program (August through first week of October).
Work may include a hybrid schedule as well as in and out-of-state travel.
Work and travel in extreme temperatures during fall orientation.
