The Assistant Director for Student Accessibility Services encompasses several key responsibilities. These include managing and overseeing accommodations, coordination, and service delivery in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 2008, as well as ensuring institutional compliance with Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act.Working in collaboration with the director, the Assistant Director will play a crucial role in engaging students with disabilities in an interactive process. This process involves developing accommodation plans tailored to each student's needs, providing ongoing support to a caseload of students, and referring students to relevant campus resources as necessary.
Additionally, the Assistant Director will take on the responsibility of educating and training both campus and community partners about disability-related matters. By fostering understanding and awareness, to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for students with disabilities.
Master's degree is required. Degree in Disability Studies, Social Work, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology, or Special Education preferred. Minimum of three (3) years supervising full time staff in an advisement, student services or disability support services department, preferably in a community college setting, is required.
Five (5) years of full-time, professional work experience providing case management for individuals with disabilities, preferably in a college or university setting.
Knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), as well as Maryland. Preference given to those with experience in disability services within the University or Community College System. Knowledge of Banner is desired. Experience working with coordination of accommodations and familiarity with alternative media and assistive technology is preferred. Flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours preferred.
