The Mayfield Central School District serves approximately 850 students in the towns of Mayfield, Northampton, Johnstown and Broadalbin in Fulton County, on the southern border of the Adirondack Park.
Mayfield serves students in grades Pre-K through 6 at Mayfield Elementary School, located on North Main Street in the village. Students in grades 7-12 attend Mayfield Jr/Sr High School on School Street. The School Street building also houses the district office.
At Mayfield Elementary School, the comprehensive academic program builds students’ confidence in themselves as learners, instills a love of learning and a desire to learn. Students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to communicate effectively, understand the world around them and participate effectively in society.
Mayfield Jr/Sr High School provides a comprehensive and challenging program that ensures that students will be successful in advanced educational studies, the workforce or other post-graduate plans. High school and college-level courses provide students with many opportunities to develop and hone their skills, attitudes, and knowledge.
“All students can learn” has been more than a mission statement. It has been a call to action for students, parents, administrators, teachers and everyone associated with the school district. Mayfield teachers are committed to and knowledgeable in their disciplines, believe in their students and are dedicated to their students’ success.
The Mayfield Central School District is also rich in tradition as evidenced by many different events that take place each school year. Typically held in March, The MTA Games pits staff and students against one another through friendly competition to help raise money for student scholarships. It’s not unusual to see the Jr/Sr High School gymnasium packed with spectators for the games, a true testament to the tight-knit community of Mayfield. During the winter months, students in good academic standing are given the green light to ride their snowmobiles to school!
Students are also active participants in community service projects throughout Mayfield. Events include leaf raking at The Rice Homestead, Soles for Souls, and the annual blood drive to name a few.
The district offers a multitude of electives and distance learning opportunities for students to choose from, with some earning a semester or more of college credit upon graduation. Beyond the classroom, there are a number of clubs and after-school programs to participate in. Mayfield also offers a robust athletics program and exceptional music and arts programs, all of which receive strong support from the community.
The Mayfield Board is working with HFM BOCES District Superintendent David Ziskin to conduct the superintendent search. Note: This search will be confidential.
