Rice Memorial High School in South Burlington, VT is looking for a Dean of Students for the 24-25 academic school year.
Owned and operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington, Rice Memorial High School is a Catholic, coeducational college preparatory school. Founded in 1917 as Cathedral High School, the school was renamed Rice Memorial High School after moving to the current location in 1959. This is one of three Catholic high schools in Vermont and the only one serving Vermont’s largest city, Burlington. The school’s mission is to guide students toward the realization of their God-given potential. Rice Memorial teaches students to recognize and develop their gifts by inspiring them to love learning, to serve others and to seek God through Jesus Christ and his Church. The Dean of Students should be an outstanding leader who models the way, inspires a shared vision, challenges the process, enables others to act and encourages the heart.
The Dean of Students should be discerning and reflective, deeply committed to the ongoing exploration of their own spirituality, in order to accompany faculty, staff and students.
The Dean of Students will have significant, shared responsibility for the pastoral care of students in the high school.
The Dean of Students will take on a significant leadership role in terms of the individual and collective standards of behavior of students, ensuring that there is a symbiotic relationship between care and learning.
The Dean of Students will report directly to the Associate Principal and have the following specific responsibilities:
Work with the Associate Principal and Principal to develop and manage academic and social policies, protocols, and practices that serve to support student development, learning, health, and safety.
Collaborate with the Guidance Dept to provide academic support, student counseling, and testing.
Promote high standards and expectations for academic performance, student leadership, personal integrity, and community responsibility.
Oversee student conduct and maintain student discipline.
Oversee and supervise Teacher Advisory and collaborate with Guidance on wellness, and counseling systems.
Address social and academic infractions; maintain correspondence related to grades and conduct with parents and other concerned parties.
Work closely with our Athletic Director during academic grade checks
Counsel students when necessary, working closely with the school counselor.
Ensure the health and safety of students on campus as well as in residential programs.
Collaborate with our Director of Residential Life on student concerns
Assist Admissions with coordinating new-student orientation.
Act as one of the faculty coordinators for Stunt Nite
Schedule special programs, speakers and events
Provide input and help maintain the school’s master calendar.
Develop and implement the Student Handbook.
Keep the Associate Principal and Principal informed regarding student issues and campus life.
Attend A-team and Guidance meetings
Perform other duties as assigned by and in support of the Principal.
Carry a course load of two classes
Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred
5+ years of experience in education and proven success as part of an administrative team
Outstanding organizational skills
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Dedicated to being a student advocate
Demonstrated success as a confident problem solver
Proven track record as an independent and goal-oriented team member
BA plus at least 4 years of experience / MA or MEd preferred
