Lake Ridge Academy, an independent K-12 college preparatory school, is seeking a full-time Middle School Science teacher for grades 7 and 8 beginning in the 2024-2025 school year. The instructor will be responsible for designing curriculum and assessments in collaboration with the Science department. We welcome applicants who have a strong commitment to working in and fostering an inclusive community, as well as those with a similar commitment to including varying perspectives among the course materials. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of successful experience teaching a conceptual understanding of Scientific content while also helping students develop strong skill sets. Our seventh grade Physical Science curriculum is an intensive (as opposed to integrated) overview of fundamental concepts in chemistry, forces, and electromagnetic theory. Our eighth grade Earth Science curriculum is an intensive overview of geosciences, including geology, plate tectonics, earth/moon/sun astronomy, weather, and climate. Both curricula encourage students to utilize our 93-acre, mixed habitat campus.
A love for working with students, excellent communication skills, and a willingness to contribute to a collaborative and close-knit teaching environment are a must. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience in curriculum design including topics related to Earth and Physical Science.
In addition to teaching their classes, the instructor will be available to students for individual help outside of class as needed, lead our school’s engagement in the Science and Engineering Symposium, share in the sponsorship of student activities, participate in faculty committees and meetings, serve as an advisor to a group of approximately 10 students, and perform other duties as determined by the Director of the Middle School.
Lake Ridge Academy will provide equal employment opportunity without regard to race, color, sex, gender, gender identity, age, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, disability, ethnic background or country of origin.
Salary is commensurate with other independent schools in the Midwest and benefits include a generous tuition remission package. Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and references to firstname.lastname@example.org by February 2nd, 2024.
About Lake Ridge Academy
Lake Ridge Academy was founded in 1963 by a small group of parents who shared a dream to create a school that would provide an exemplary learning environment where their children would be known. While our school has grown tremendously in both size and academic program since then, the mission of our founders still holds true to this day. Our school offers a world-class K-12 education in a warm and inviting community where all of our students are known and supported by a highly-educated and committed faculty. When you step on our campus in North Ridgeville you will notice a few things that are different from other schools in our area: students learning outside on our sprawling 93-acre campus, teachers engaging students through hands-on learning activities or student-led discussions, older students collaborating with younger students, no locks on lockers, an appreciation for racial, cultural, ethnic, religious, and gender diversity, as well as diversity of thought, and unique creative learning spaces like our engineering fab lab or fine arts center.
The mission of the school is to send into a changing world confident young people of integrity who think critically and creatively while embracing the joy of lifelong learning.
