The Division of Student Life is responsible for the intellectual, social, and holistic development and education of Tufts students outside of the classroom and works closely with staff and faculty to create a unique and powerful experience for the entire student body.
What You'll Do
The Director of Restorative Practices is a professional staff position that directly oversees the infusion, implementation and strategy of restorative practices within the Student Life division. Student Life seeks an experienced practitioner, trainer, and facilitator of restorative practice to create a sustainable multi-tiered suite of programming and resources to build community and catalyze positive campus cultural change.
At the direction of and in close partnership with the Dean of Students, the Director will design, develop, implement and manage a comprehensive slate of new programs and initiatives designed to provide the Division of Student Life and the student community with a common language and tools to build community, cultivate self-awareness, practice civil discourse, and navigate conflict. These initiatives will be culturally responsive and relevant, centering student voices in both design and implementation, and will include proactive engagement and skill-building opportunities. This work will integrate with other divisional efforts to promote resilience, intercultural understanding, and belonging.
The Director will create robust, scalable community-building curriculum and programming for undergraduate and graduate AS&E students. Specific to restorative practices and in coordination with Student Life teams, the Director will create and lead a student peer leader program that will serve as one of the pillars for integrating restorative practices in Tufts' campus culture.
The Director will lead division efforts to 'train the trainer', educate, and support Student Life staff through programmatic offerings such as restorative circles, workshops, presentations, and outreach.
The Director will also serve as a critical collaborator and point of consultation and connection for partners across the university, and lead (instead of support) efforts to grow internal capacity across the division for restorative approaches. Specifically, the Director will partner with colleagues at Tisch College GLAD-C Center and with the office of the Associate Vice-Provost for Diversity and Inclusion to advance Student Life restorative practices efforts and align them with the university-wide inclusive and restorative dialogue strategy.
What We're Looking For
Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a Master’s degree in a related field (higher education, diversity and inclusion, teaching and learning, social psychology, social work related fields) and at least 5 years of full-time work experience in restorative practices, ranging from community building, conflict resolution, and adjudications
Experience should be in a role that directly oversaw or implemented restorative practices congruent to the job description
Demonstrated skills in facilitation and training, and communication
Experience developing or creating programs focused on community building and lifelong skills
Strong skillset related to advising and supervising students; excellent interpersonal, organizational skills; understanding of and commitment to issues of college student development; demonstrated leadership, advisory, organization, and management skills
Certificate in restorative justice facilitation or leadership
Background in student life or student affairs areas such as student support, student success, residential life, student programming and other related areas
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Some after-hours evening and weekend work required depending on student events schedule.
Minimum $102,400.00, Midpoint $128,050.00, Maximum $153,700.00
Salary is based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
