Metro State University, Minnesota's public, urban university, and four-time recipient of the Insight Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award is seeking to hire up to three (3) Academic Advisors.These are a full-time/probationary positions within the Advising Department in the Academic Affairs division.

This position exists to advance the teaching and learning mission of Metro State University by providing regular academic advising to students pursuing a College of Liberal Arts major or minor, a College of Individualized Studies degree, and/or students who enter Metro State as an undecided student. The incumbent also leads and/or contributes to continuous improvement projects that enhance advising and student support outcomes in the context of institutional commitments toward social mobility, high-quality education, and innovation. Primary responsibilities are as follows:
Serve as academic advisor for assigned caseload of advisees to support retention and persistence to degree completion.
Maintain education records to support continuity of service, assessment, and legal compliance.
Lead and/or contribute to small and medium-sized projects for continuous improvement to enhance advising and student success.
Engage in ongoing professional development in order to maintain a broad set of knowledge, skills and abilities with an emphasis on culturally responsive advising in a minority-serving institution.
Master's degree plus one year of professional experience advising students in an educational setting; or Bachelor's degree plus two years of professional experience advising students in a higher education setting.
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply a complex body of advising theories and practices, including approaches such as intrusive advising, developmental advising, and student success strategies.
Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate degree program requirements, pre-requisites, and graduation requirements sufficient to advise students in multiple degree programs.
Demonstrated ability to understand and relate the work of multiple areas, including multiple academic departments, admissions, financial aid, and student services.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in student record and customer relationship management systems, including compliance with FERPA and similar regulations.
A record of professional development related to serving non-traditional and diverse students, including development on topics such as anti-racism and inclusion.
Work experience with education in minority-serving institutions or similar contexts.
Experience with project management, program assessment, or regional accreditation sufficient to independently manage small-to-medium projects.
Experience providing academic advising through telephone, email, social media, and video conferencing, or other innovative approaches to connecting with students.
