Job Summary: | The Cross-College Advising Service (CCAS) provides holistic and developmental advising for students who are exploring their academic and career interests. Any student who is undecided or thinking about changing majors is welcomed at CCAS. Advisors at CCAS are knowledgeable about majors and certificates across all eight undergraduate schools and colleges. Our advising team serves students using multiple modalities at our main office and in five residence hall advising offices across campus. The foundations of our service rest on the principles of Belong, Explore, Become, and we strive to create a community where students and staff are supported to grow and develop according to their strengths, interests, and values. CCAS seeks to hire an Associate Director of Operations and Programming whose work will be organized around five themed areas: Advising Operations, Student Programming, Supervision, Academic Advising, and Staff and Community Development. Please review the "Tasks' section below for greater details.
This position may require some pre-scheduled weekend and evening work and reports to the Director of CCAS. Cross-College Advising Service (CCAS) is one of seven subunits within the Office of Academic and Career Success (OACS) which is housed within the Division for Teaching and Learning (DTL) along with the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring (CTLM), the Wisconsin Institute for Science Education and Community Engagement (WISCIENCE), the Morgridge Center for Public Service, the Rebecca M. Blank Center for Campus History (CCH), Indigenous Education/Our Shared Future, and the Student Learning Assessment (SLA) office.

Responsibilities: | Leads one or more major operations of the institutional academic advising unit and assists in the development of strategy, policy, and protocol. Administers services and cultivates relationships to support student academic progress for the institution, to ensure that all students receive quality academic support. Represents the director when needed and strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment. - 25% Leads one or more major operations of the institutional advising unit and plans and directs staff implementation of academic services, related programs, and other events
- 15% Assists in the development of strategic planning initiatives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources, and alignment with the strategic plan
- 5% Assists in the development of institutional operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and objectives
- 5% Reviews and makes recommendations for exceptions to academic policies, procedures, and requirements for students
- 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- 5% Maintains expertise with advised curriculum and may assist in developing and recommending exceptions for policy and curriculum
- 5% Serves as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders to maintain campus partnerships
- 5% Participates in the campus-wide advising community, providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the institution
- 15% Participates in/supports broad advising operations of undeclared and exploring students within CCAS such as Student Orientation and Registration (SOAR), staffing front desk, serving as a member of the a residence hall team, staff satellite location

Tasks: | - Advising Operations: Work closely with the Office Manager to ensure CCAS advising services (on-call, satellite drop-in advising, scheduled appointments) throughout the academic year are effectively and efficiently coordinated and delivered.
- Advising Operations: Work closely with the Assessment Analyst and the Leadership Team to evaluate advising processes and procedures.
- Advising Operations: Work closely with the Communications Director on the development and execution of an annual communication strategy.
- Student Programming: Provide vision and leadership for innovative programming with key campus partners and units such as OACS, CeO, MSC, McBurney, and UHS.
- Student Programming: Provide vision and leadership for innovative programming that exemplifies our core values of Belong, Explore, Become.
- Supervision: Provide supervision, coaching, and professional development support to the Office Manager and Communications Director. Could supervise 2-3 professional staff roles.
- Academic Advising: Serve as the assigned academic advisor to a caseload of CCAS students (60-80 students).
- Academic Adv: develops and maintains knowledge of: academic degrees, majors, certificates and policies; campus support offices such as career advising, health services, financial aid, disability support services, academic and learning support.
- Staff and Community Development: Assists with training and mentoring of professional and student staff members
- Staff and Community Development: Engages in learning about diversity, equity, and inclusion of marginalized populations and contributes to a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Staff and Community Development: Provide leadership and coordination for staffing of liaisons, CCAS internal committees and provide support to committee chairs
- Staff and Community Development: Serve on the CCAS Leadership Team
- Staff and Community Development: In collaboration with staff, provide leadership for annual CCAS retreat.
- Work closely with and serve as a key advisor to the Director. Represents the Director as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: | Required Qualifications: 1. Seven years of progressive experience in higher education, counseling, student services, program or project management. 2. Experience supervising, coaching, training, and/or mentoring professional staff. 3. Experience providing direct student advising.
CCAS seeks an individual who has: 1. Experience seeking input from a team, building consensus, and moving initiatives forward. 2. Experience working independently and proactively managing multiple projects and priorities. 3. Experience creating programming for students with an awareness of working with students from diverse backgrounds. 4. Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and sustain positive working relationships. 5. Strong communication skills with an ability to be an effective listener, writer, and public speaker with multiple audiences (e.g. students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents and guests). 6. Experience exercising independent and informed decision-making. |

Salary: | Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The expected salary range for this position is $70,000 up to $85,000. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
