This is a 12-month position responsible for all aspects of the Men's Soccer program, including the administration of day-to-day aspects of a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III soccer program. This includes a commitment to the student-athletes' academic progress and degree completion.
The successful candidate will have an opportunity to build, mold, and cultivate a winning Men's Soccer program at the University of St. Thomas that provides a positive environment for its student-athletes to succeed spiritually, socially, academically, and in competition. The program will be a part of the NCAA and will function as a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC). The candidate will be instrumental in determining the foundation and direction of the program.
Reporting lines:
The Head Men's Soccer Coach will report to the Director of Athletics for all matters related to the Men's Soccer program and will work closely with Admissions, faculty, administration, and staff to help advance UST athletics.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Student development theory is used to create, plan, and implement educational, social, physical, and cultural programming designed to enhance the overall experience and achievement of both undergraduate and graduate students. These means are accomplished through the following specific duties:
Manage day-to-day activities of an NCAA DIII soccer program.
Stay updated and compliant with all NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
Recruitment of student-athletes in compliance with UNIVERSITY and NCAA DIII policies & procedures
Practice and Match preparation
Scheduling and travel arrangements
Budget preparation & management
Establish and maintain relationships with regional and national coaching organizations and associations.
Coordinate with the Recreational Sports Office and off campus facilities with the scheduling of practices and other team events on and off campus
Collaborate with University Advancement relating to fundraising initiatives.
Work with the Faculty Athletics Representative
Coordinate with other offices on campus including Admissions, Financial Aid, and the Registrar
Participate actively in campus events and on university committees to support the University community and provide a leadership presence.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletic Administration
Serve as event day administrator as assigned.
Design, market and manage summer youth camps and clinics.
Serve as facility monitor for safety and well-being of participants in athletic activities.
Supervisory responsibilities:
The Head Men's Soccer Coach position may also supervise a volunteer assistant, student assistant and team manager. In consultation with the Director of Athletics, this position is responsible for overseeing all the following: delegation of work, performance appraisals, discipline issues, and the hiring and termination process.
Fiscal responsibilities:
The Head Men's Soccer Coach is responsible for assisting the Director of Athletics with the departmental budget expenditures for the Men's Soccer program.
Working conditions:
Position requires irregular office hours including after-hours and weekend work to attend competitions, practices, and university events. Office hours will be established in consultation with the Director of Athletics. Physical requirements are those of a normal office. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible, exempt position.

Knowledge and skills required:
A Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Sport Management or a related field is preferred with a minimum of three years of coaching experience, preferably in a college or university setting.
A Master's Degree is desired.
The successful candidate must also have excellent verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills. Basic computer skills should include word processing and spreadsheets.

From 2006-2018, UST Athletics competed in NAIA and the Red River Athletic Conference. In 2018, an invitation was extended for UST to begin an exploratory year of transition to NCAA DIII followed by three provisional membership years before full membership in 2022. During this time, St. Thomas competed in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) with Trinity, Colorado College, Southwestern, Texas Lutheran, Schreiner, University of Dallas, Centenary and Austin College.
In 2022-2023, UST tallied 300 student-athletes and added cheer and dance teams. Notably, 120 new student-athletes became part of our athletics family in 2022-2023. In addition, UST hired a swim coach for its new competitive swim program. Swimming begins in the 2023 season bringing the UST student athlete total to 350 with 25 staff members.
