The Well-Being Center at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University invites applications for a full-time (.83 FTE), benefit eligible position of Counselor.  
 
The Counselor provides outreach and consultation services to enrolled students with particular focus on historically underrepresented students, based on race and ethnicity, gender and sexual identity and expression, or socioeconomic status. The Counselor will also provide individual and group counseling to CSB and SJU students who present with a wide range of personal and academic concerns. This role has the expectation of strong multicultural counseling skills (working with BIPOC and LGBTQ+ students) as well as competency in trauma-informed counseling, sexual assault/violence, depression, anxiety, relational and adjustment concerns. Finally, the Counselor will act as a liaison to enhance and maintain campus partners to deepen connections with and promote services to historically underrepresented students and related groups. This role is supervised by the Director of Counseling in the Well-Being Center.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and group counseling and psychotherapy services to undergraduate and graduate students.
• Provide appropriate professional assessment, diagnosis, and referrals for students, as needed.  
• Provide consultation to students, parents, faculty and staff, and outside professionals.  
• Design and deliver outreach programs and psycho-educational workshops focused on student development, addressing mental health concerns, and health enhancement particularly for historically underrepresented students.  
• Enhance and develop campus liaison relationships to deepen connections with and promote Well-Being Center services to historically underrepresented students.  
• Participate in the planning and implementation of programs and services focused on the intersectional identity needs of students.        
• Provide crisis interventions for students; predominately occurring during regular work hours but may include occasional after-hours coverage (by phone) for counseling and psychological services. 
• Participate in outreach events hosted by Multicultural Student Services occurring in the evening and on weekends, equating to about 8 hours a month. 
• Complete professional development and continuing education activities per licensure requirements (e.g. Minnesota Board of Psychology, Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy, Minnesota Board of Social Work, Minnesota Board of Marriage and Family Therapy).        
• Engage in campus committee work as assigned by Director and/or as time permits.  
• Additional duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, marriage and family therapy, or related field from an accredited program.
• Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Minnesota in a mental health profession.
• Demonstrated competency in providing psychological services (individual and/or group); counseling and psychotherapy experience.
• Demonstrated multicultural counseling skills (working with BIPOC students and LGBTQ+ students). This includes an emphasis on race/ethnicity, sexual orientation and identity, gender identity and expression, and socioeconomic status. 
• Demonstrated skill in and commitment to providing outreach programs and clinical services to historically underrepresented students. 
• Demonstrated clinical competency in trauma-informed counseling, sexual assault/violence, depression, anxiety adjustment, and relational concerns. 
• Ability to interact and communicate professionally with students, administrators, faculty, staff, and concerned others. 

Preferred: 

• Bilingual abilities in Spanish, Hmong, Somali or other language. 
• Demonstrated clinical competency working with young adults. 

Physical Requirements:
Prolonged sitting and computer work.  No lifting.  Occasional standing.
 
Travel Requirements:
Position primarily at CSB counseling office but may need to cover at SJU site 1-2 days a week. Travel to SJU for meetings and outreach may occur.
