Description:
Reporting to the Sr. Associate Director of Career Development and Assessment, the Assistant Director will join a team of professionals who are committed to student success, collaboration, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Assistant Director plays an integral role in equitably preparing students for their careers through coaching, workshops, and educational/student support services programs, overseeing pre-professional organizations, and other collaborations across campus. The Assistant Director is expected to uphold the values of the division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success, and works collaboratively to execute its mission to promote student learning, growth, and success, in and out of the classroom, while demonstrating value added to student recruitment and retention efforts. This individual will need to be flexible, creative, and student-centered.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Career Readiness Coaching/Education (40%)
Provides equitable career support to individuals with varying identities and experiences, fostering an inclusive environment for all students and alumni.
Actively participates in ongoing professional development and training related to current trends in career services, employment, experiential learning, and DEI.
Develops and delivers career development workshops and other educational programs.
Serves as a liaison to an assigned college population within the University; facilitate program requests from faculty in liaison areas and as needed broadly across academic departments.
Advises pre-professional student organizations within liaison area, providing support and guidance for programming initiatives.
Develops and executes outreach and appointment campaigns to engage students within your assigned population.
Signature Programs Management (30%)
Oversees the management of the Career Closet, maintaining storage, operations, and donations with the support of student assistants.
Provides logistical support and creative input for large scale, signature events.
Marketing & Communication Leadership (30%)
Oversees outreach and marketing to students regarding programming and services, serving as the key point of contact for communications campaigns using SLATE, HofCast, etc.
Coordinates content creation with a team of student assistants for social media, flyers, and other marketing collateral.
Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required.
3-5 years of experience in advising, counseling, or student support.
Understanding of the NACE Career Readiness Competencies.
A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to upholding the NACE Principles for Professional Practice.
A demonstrated collaborative disposition and creative approach to problem solving.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities, perform highly detailed work, and be able to leverage technology tools.
A demonstrated student-centered, service orientation, a mentoring philosophy, and the ability to serve the broad scope of the University.
Understanding of career services management systems, and other career-related resources.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in counseling, student affairs, or related field, with 5-7 years of relevant experience preferred.
1-2 years of supervisory experience in a higher education setting.
