Job Description:
This position exists to support the access, persistence, retention, and success of all students, especially those from historically underrepresented and marginalized populations and students enrolled by the United States Naval Community College partnership. The coordinator responsibilities comprising this role include working in collaboration with the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and the EDI Team to identify and adjust policies or procedures that create barriers for students. This position plays a pivotal role in implementing initiatives that support Minnesota State's Equity 2030 goals, including support of EDI related education and programming for the entire campus community. This position serves as one of two USNCC designated advisors, working closely with the Alexandria Technical and Community College (ATCC) transfer advisor to support the partnership through ongoing communication with the USNCC Student Success Team.
Duties include:
Coordinate programming related to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), including on-campus programming for students and connecting on and off-campus resources.
Act as a comprehensive advocate for students to insure their success. Assist with academic advising, help to navigate the college's processes, and connect with college and community resources.
Provide individualized advising and success coach outreach for military students.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree
Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of underrepresented student populations.
Strong ability to build meaningful relationships with a diverse student body
Demonstrated knowledge of college academic and student support services
Ability to flex hours as needed to attend college-sponsored events and serve student programming
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
Preferred areas of study – social science, education, international studies, human services
Knowledge of best practices to retain college students or student development theories
Experience in marketing or promotional-driven organizations
