Job DescriptionFull-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $37,750 to $47,200; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
The Admissions Assistant position is full-time. Office hours are Monday - Friday from 9:00amto 5:00pm. Occasional evenings and weekendwork may be required. Some travel, when appropriate.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Admission, the AdmissionsAssistant coordinates all aspects of the admission process related to programinformation dissemination, collection of electronic applications, andcommunication of admission and scholarship decisions. In addition, theAdmissions Assistant coordinates the process for awarding graduateassistantships, organizes volunteer peer advisors, and supervises studentemployees. Specific job functions include prospective student customer service,application and scholarship process management, database maintenance, eventplanning, coordination of graduate assistantships, and other duties. Thisposition will oversee a team of graduate student assistants. Essential functions include:
Manage day-to-day operations of Admissions Office. Provide excellentcustomer service to prospective students and their families. Welcome and greetvisitors in person or on the phone; answer e-mail or phone inquiries regardingacademic programs and resources; provides advice to students and their familiesregarding admissions and/or records and registration process and eligibility;interact with students and/or families to follow up on missing or deficientinformation; resolve problems related to admissions process by clarifyingcomplaint, determining cause of the problem, and advising the best solution.
Manage collection of application materials for approximately 1,000 MSW applicants.Review, verify, and assess applications and supporting documentation inaccordance with established guidelines to determine admission eligibility;reviews documents to ensure accuracy and completeness. Contribute to the maintenance of Slate CRM system as a power user and aresource for the School of Social Work.
Coordinate various admission related events pre-and post-selection (i.e.attendance to career fairs, incoming student reception, new studentorientation).
Create and maintain the various admission and financial aid databases tobe shared by Admissions. Field Education, and Student Services.
Provide internal customer service with advice and guidance to otherdepartments within the School and within the University.
Attend Graduate and Professional School Fairs, and other trade meetings(i.e. the Council in Social Work Education annual conference, and otherrecruitment fairs) as needed.
Coordinate the award of graduate assistantships.
RequirementsBachelor's degree strongly preferred. Atleast two years of college admissions experience is required. The AdmissionsProgram Assistant must be a self-starter, and able to work independently in adeadline oriented environment. They must also possess excellentcommunication, organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills. They should be able operate in a diverse settings and surroundings. The abilityto set priorities is imperative. The Admissions Assistant should also bea team player who is adaptable to change. Flexibility is a must. Be highlyproficient in use of all standard office equipment. Proficient with PCs (Wordand Excel), on-line student information systems, and other appropriate officeequipment. Ability to represent Boston College and the School of SocialWork in an outgoing and professional manner at public events. Superior customerservice orientation and focus and the ability to work effectively independentlyas well as in a team environment. Superior written and oral communicationskills. Ability to work with varying constituencies including faculty, staff,and students. Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, andattention to detail. Familiarity with Boston College systems including Slate, EagleApps,FolderWave, and IA is preferred. Excellent computer skills (Excel, FileMakerPro, Microsoft Word, Power Point). Ability to maintain data security andconfidentiality of all data at all times. Strong interpersonal skills anddemonstrable problem solving skills. Ability to hire, delegate, oversee,follow-up and supervise student employees (valuing diversity). Ability tocreate and maintain systems for efficient office management. Ability to workwith others under pressure in order to meet deadlines. Ability to engage indiscerning conversations with prospective and admitted students.
