Job DescriptionThe Assistant Director for HousingOperations manages all elements of Boston College'ssummer housing operations including the scheduling, placement, and billing ofall summer residents and groups including summer session students, alumnireunions, orientations, conferences and camps. Additionally, the AssistantDirector manages the opening and closing of the residence halls at the startand end of each term session.
Underthe supervision of the Associate Director of Housing Operations this positionsupervises a full-time assistant and four summer resident directors and isresponsible for recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising 120 summerstudent workers. The Assistant Director is responsible for providing awelcoming environment and high quality customer service experience for allresidents and guests during the summer months, at times requiring creativeproblem solving and crisis response skills. In support of this goal, thisposition works with a wide range of university constituents (First YearExperience, Athletics, Dean of Students Office, Alumni, Dining Services, BCPD,Events Management, Facilities) to coordinate delivery of services and ensurethat all policies are disseminated and followed by both summer staff andguests.
The Assistant Director for Housing Operations is responsible for managing theopening and closing of the residence halls; maintaining accurate summerbookings for summer students, conferences and camps; managing all informationand processes including billing relating to early arrivals and housingextensions; and overseeing transitions at the beginning and end of each termsession. Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the AssistantDirector is responsible for establishing and reviewing summer housingguidelines and the management of all summer housing contracts.
The Assistant Director ensures that all student employees follow the Protectionof Minors policy and guidelines, and that all background checks and Protectionof Minors paperwork is completed by summer staff. The Assistant Director workswith Event Management and Human Resources to confirm all internal and externalclients utilizing summer housing meet the Protection of Minors guidelines.
The position is also responsible for day-to-day functional management of theStarRez housing database, specifically the early arrival, extension, and summeremployment application modules. The Assistant Director works with technologystaff to manage residence hall access for the summer months, and serves as aback-up for managing summer access cards and access plans utilizing CCure.
The Assistant Director for Housing Operations is responsible for the trainingof both professional staff and student workers with respect to a variety ofsystems, policies, and procedures that relate to the operational efficiency ofhall opening and closing, delivery of summer services, use of departmentaltechnologies, and the protection of minors policy,
The Assistant Director for Housing Operations conducts an annual profit andloss analysis at the end of the summer to ensure that all summer housingexpenses are covered and periodically conducts comparative rate and servicestudies with other universities and colleges, reconciles summer operationsrevenues and expenses, and manages relationships with vendors for procurementand laundering of all summer linens. The Assistant Director is responsible forensuring that billing, charges, fees and approximately $3 million in annualrevenue and expenses generated by approximately 13,000 summer residents andguests are accounted for accurately.
As a member of the housing operations team, the Assistant Director for HousingOperations will also be called upon to support a variety of departmental needsincluding but not limited to supporting short-term or one time housing needsrelated to conferences and events as well as short term relocation of studentsduring the academic year and summer.
In order to create a more inclusive community within the Division of StudentAffairs, each staff member is expected to support division and university-wideinitiatives, staff events, and serve on committees as needed.
Full-TimeEquivalent Hiring Range: $61,650 to $77,050; salary commensurate with relevantexperience.
Requirements- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Business, or comparable field; Master's in Higher Education, Business, or comparable field preferred.
- At least two years of experience in university housing, conference services, related Student Affairs or higher education operational area, or hospitality management.
- Comprehensive appreciation of the Jesuit and Catholic values and mission and the traditions and heritage of Boston College, and a willingness to express and abide by those values and mission.
- Demonstrated success in student and professional staff supervision.
- Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Understanding of a comprehensive conference and summer camps program.
- Experience managing a summer conference and camps program serving multiple internal and external clients.
Ability to resolve conflicts with students, conference attendees, and university stakeholders. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong technical background: experience with StarRez database preferred.
