Collins College of Professional Studies Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Academic Engagement
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the CCPS (Collins College of Professional Studies) Dean, the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and Academic Engagement focuses on supporting the growth and operations of graduate degree programs and identifying external opportunities for programs' growth that will enhance the scholarly and professional reputation of the College. The Associate Dean will also be responsible for strategizing and executing initiatives to enhance the student experience through engagement, improving learning outcomes within and outside the classroom, and building a learning community to increase retention and graduation rates and improve students' employability. The Associate Dean works collaboratively with Chairs, Program Directors, and faculty to identify opportunities for new graduate degree programs and professional certifications; actively seeks out and develops articulation agreements with other institutions of higher learning domestically and internationally; promotes existing programs; and, in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Technologies and Pedagogic Innovation, supports faculty in implementing technology-driven high impact practices in their classrooms and teaching practices. This role is crucial in developing a student-centric learning culture that emphasizes innovation, creativity, multidisciplinary collaboration, and entrepreneurial thinking across the college and within St. John's University.
Graduate Studies Responsibilities:
Programs management:
Review the graduate course offerings submitted by Division Chairs each semester and establish criteria to manage course conflicts, overloads and support resolving scheduling issues.
Manage students' affairs, such as appeals and disciplinary issues.
Collaborate with Program Directors and faculty to ensure that existing graduate programs are meeting the needs of students and prospective employers and comply with relevant State and accreditation standards.
Actively seek out new domestic or international academic or professional partnerships and articulation agreements that will increase graduate enrollment and/or enhance the scholarly or professional reputation of CCPS.
Collaborate with faculty to identify and assess proposals for new graduate programs by reviewing resource needs, projections of enrollment demand, and how latest programs may complement and enhance existing CCPS graduate and undergraduate programs; support faculty in the preparation and submission of new program proposals, including undergraduate-graduate pathways and/or dual degree programs; and collaborate with the Associate Dean of Curriculum to ensure that those programs receive proper approval and that other units of the University are aware of their existence.
Collaborate with the Career Service unit to develop and implement programs and initiatives that promote student employability, mentoring, career counseling, and leadership development.
Implement activities and initiatives to promote and advertise existing programs in collaboration with the Director of Marketing and the Program coordinators.
Student Engagement and Community building:
Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Technology and Pedagogical Innovation to ensure alignment of student engagement initiatives with the strategic direction of academic technologies and the College.
Foster a sense of community by favoring connection between students and faculty, promoting an inclusive culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, and learning practices, and supporting professional development and student employability.
Collaborate with faculty to integrate innovative pedagogy, technology, experiential learning activities, and high-impact practices into curricula.
Develop and oversee programs and events that facilitate student engagement, enhancing academic and co-curricular experiences.
Represent the college as a member of St. John's University's student success initiatives and act as a liaison with the University Office of Student Success.
Support to the Dean's Office:
Participate in the CCPS Strategic Planning Committee and contribute to developing the CCPS Annual Report, the CCPS Annual Plan, and University Strategic Plan updates.
Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in developing and implementing assessment strategies and measuring student success initiatives' effectiveness.
As directed by the Dean, perform classroom evaluations of selected junior faculty.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent degree
Seven to ten years of experience in a similar or equivalent position
Experience with designing and or coordinating online graduate programs
Academic background with experience with graduate teaching and substantial research records
Familiarity with innovative and technology-driven pedagogic approaches to online learning, creativity, problem-based learning, making, prototyping, design thinking, and STEAM learning
Familiarity with the implementation of High Impact Practices and methodologies for their assessment
Strong leadership skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and deep understanding of student success strategies
Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
A strong understanding of and passion for learning innovation and the latest pedagogic and educational technology trends
Commitment to DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $120,000 - $133,000. St. John's University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
This position may be relocated to any of St. John's University's physical locations at any time.
