Youth and Learning by Leading Education Coordinator

Within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Cornell Botanic Gardens is the living museum of Cornell University. The gardens' mission is to inspire people--through cultivation, conservation, and education--to understand, appreciate, and nurture plants and the cultures they sustain. The gardens, arboretum, and natural areas cover approximately 4,000 acres adjacent to central campus and throughout Tompkins County.
Position Summary:

Under overall supervision of the Director of Education and Academic Initiatives, this position coordinates Cornell Botanic Gardens' Youth (pre-K-12) and Learning by Leading engaged learning program for Cornell University students.
The position will coordinate the Gardens' Learning by Leading (LxL) engaged learning program for Cornell University undergraduate students, coordinating the administrative, operational, and leadership aspects of the program, working with existing teams focused on horticultural enterprises, garden ambassadorship, and sustainable landscapes and serve as a mentor for a youth education team that will design, deliver, and evaluate activities for youth.
The position will also coordinate the administrative, operational, and leadership aspects of our K-12 youth programming, will leverage community and Cornell partnerships to optimize our impact in youth programming. The coordinator will develop, implement, and evaluate youth programs: designing age-appropriate activities and materials that promote learning about plants; coordinate events and programs fostering welcoming and inclusive learning environments for diverse youth audiences and their families; collaborate with campus and community partners that work with youth; and oversee all school programs and youth-focused programs at the gardens.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in horticulture, education, environmental education, interpretation, environmental science, or related field, with 3-5 years relevant work experience, including at least 2 years of experience with curriculum writing, program development, and leading programs for a variety of ages, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience developing and delivering environmental education, informal science, and/or plant and natural science programs for K-6 grade students.
- Experience mentoring, coaching, working with and training university students.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic communities.
- Experience working with diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellbeing programs.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five to seven years' experience developing and delivering K-12 in-school and informal youth programming with knowledge of and/or experience in: Informal science education, environmental education, inquiry-driven learning, NYS student learning standards, and science communication strategies, and youth development.
- Developing activities and curriculum for K-6 youth related to plant and natural sciences.
- Working with teachers, school administrators and community partners.
- Education event development, planning and implementation.
- Experience training, mentoring, coaching university students.
- Experience teaching university student how to work with youth and develop age-appropriate activities and curricula, and education programs.
