The Study Away and Global Education (SAGE) research project in the Division of Arts & Humanities, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research assistant to undertake research projects and publish/disseminate findings related to international education, higher education access policies such as affirmative action, and their relationship to student success outcomes.
Using large data sets, rigorous statistical methods and policy analysis, alongside qualitative, historical, and mixed-methods approaches, SAGE develops and explores the evidence base for understanding: 1) affirmative action programs in various national contexts with a current focus on Brazil, India, and the US, examining the ways in which affirmative action policies have a dynamic relationship with race/caste identification and classification; and 2) the effects of study away and global education on a variety of indicators of student success and student development, with special attention to students who have historically been underrepresented in international education.
NYU has become the institutional home for the CASSIE dataset, developed through U.S. Federal funding by the University System of Georgia and managed by SAGE under the auspices of NYU Steinhardt's Institute of Human Development and Social Change (IHDSC). Although the existing dataset is already a rich trove to be explored, SAGE plans to expand it and increase its research value both by adding new institutions to the consortium and by incorporating additional student cohorts (e.g., students who started college between 2012 and 2017). SAGE may also convene and present at conferences and symposia to advance research in this area and deepen NYU's role as a leader in both research and practice related to global education.
The Research Assistant will conduct literature reviews, data collection and analysis, and case-study and policy analysis under the supervision of the Principal Investigator. The RA will meet regularly with the PI and submit regular progress and research reports. The RA must be able to work independently, meet deadlines, and perform work with a very high degree of accuracy.
Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in social science, history, or related field. Previous research experience and experience with statistical analysis are strongly preferred.Fluency in Brazilian Portuguese is preferred but not required. For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names of three references, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Erich Dietrich at erich.dietrich@nyu.edu
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
