Basic Function:
As a live-in professional and essential member of the Student Affairs staff, the Community Director is responsible for managing and supervising the day-to-day community development and operations of a residential community of up to 400-600 first-year and/or upper-class students. The position reports to the Assistant Director for Residential Education and supervises 10-15 student Resident Advisers.
Major Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, and evaluate 10-15 Resident Advisers.
- Oversee 2-5 residence halls and/or houses with 400-600 residential students
- Oversee Living Learning communities and Affinity spaces in their designated area. Creating intentionally designed programming for the needs of the community.
- Under the leadership of the Assistant Director, develop, implement and enhance a comprehensive Residential Experience model.
- Serve as a University Hearing Officer to facilitate student conduct proceedings.
- Serve as on-call staff person for the residential community on a rotating basis with the other professional staff members. This includes responding to various policy infractions, crisis situations, and various student incidents on campus.
- Be aware of and address student concerns and assist students on an individual and group basis regarding personal, academic, and housing-related concerns. Share information about issues to other staff and offices, as appropriate.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings and bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with Resident Advisers to share information and discuss student and Hall/House-related concerns.
- Provide leadership for students and staff to initiate, im�plement, and evaluate educational, social, recreational, and community service programs for residen�tial students. Actively encourage faculty and staff involvement. Implement and attend programs to provide maximum visibility in Halls.
- Manage professional development, staff development, and hall programming budgets.
- Coordinate staff efforts to effectively serve as a liaison between residents and campus partners.
- Oversee Hall Councils for respective residence halls. Advising HC leadership, overseeing programming efforts, and providing organizational structure.
- Support the Director of Residential Life & Housing and the Assistant Director for Housing Operations regarding housing and staffing related issues, i.e. duty schedules, room assignment, room changes, damage billing, opening and closings, room condition cards, housing lottery, etc.
- Support the Assistant Director of Residential Education in planning and implementing RA training programs, in?service training programs, RA socials and appreciation events, RA evaluations, RA Hiring processes, etc.
- Each Community Director will participate in departments and campus wide committees to be determined by the Director of RLH or their designee within the following areas: Student Leadership and Programming, residential curriculum, new student experience and Orientation, graduate student experience, off-campus student experience, multicultural student engagement, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) and general operations within the RLH department.

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred; degree specialization in Higher Education Administration/ College Student Personnel preferred.
- Previous residential life experience at the RA or professional level strongly preferred.
- Flexible and adaptable, high-energy approach to student development and proven ability to engage students.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Basic budgeting skills.
- A strong understanding of student development is essential.
