The University of Virginia Division of Student Affairs invites applications for an exciting opportunity within the Division – Program Coordinator for Leadership and Service. Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director for Student Engagement, the Program Coordinator for Leadership and Service is responsible for the providing leadership development opportunities to students offered through Student Engagement, while also working with partners to support public service and outreach initiatives.
The University of Virginia’s Division of Student Affairs Office of Student Engagement promotes holistic leadership development, connects students to resources, and cultivates their passions. Student Engagement serves as a nexus for Student Self-Governance on Grounds supporting Student Council, University Programs Council, the University Board of Elections, and all 700+ student organizations. Additionally, Student Engagement works to grow student leaders through development programs including CIO Summit, Blueprint Leadership Program, Women’s Leadership Development Program, and Adult-ish.
Leadership Education and Programming
Support student-led planning committee to develop and implement Blueprint Leadership Program for first and second year students
Lead efforts to organize Adult-ish life skills program in conjunction with other staff in Student Engagement, and with support from presenters from around Grounds and the broader community
Work with and support student-led planning committee which develops and implements Women’s Leadership Development Program
Partnering with the Program Coordinator for Student Organizations, assist in the development of the CIO Summit, a leadership development and training program required for all CIOs.
Public Service Pathways
In partnership with the Public Service Pathways (PSP) unit based out of the Provost’s office, support the Public Service Pathways Student Advisory Council
Help Recruit, interview, and hire the student-led working board
Lead and attend biweekly meetings and provide support to the four committee leads
Ensure PSP, Student Engagement, and the Advisory Board keep open channels of communication and exchange programmatic data.
Service Initiatives
Build and maintain relationships with service-oriented CIOs, and assist students at large find opportunities within these organizations
Serve as dedicated ambassador to Madison House, the 503c Non-Profit which organizes UVA students service opportunities in the Charlottesville area.
Advisement of UBE
Provide guidance and support for the for the University Board of Elections (UBE), the student committee responsible for organizing all campus-wide student elections
Assist UBE with budget allocation, tracking, and spending process
Contribute to the creation and facilitation of the training of new UBE commissioner training
Connect UBE with University media, legal, and policy experts as needed to manage message and concerns that may arise prior to, during, and after elections
Facilitate relationship building between UBE chair and leaders of other Sponsored Student Organizations, including Student Council, which utilize UBE for elections.
Administration
Assess programs, events, trainings, etc. to measure effectiveness and progress towards intended outcomes; utilize data to adjust future planning
Propose budgets, track expenses, and ensure costs do not exceed set limits
Help develop departmental goals, objectives, and budgets to properly establish departmental priorities
Serve on Division and University committees as assigned
Support Student Engagement and Student Affairs initiatives as needed.
Compensation and Benefits:
The hiring range for this position is $45,000.00-$55,000.00, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Employment is contingent on successful completion of a background check. This is an exempt-level position with UVa benefits. Employees’ benefits package highlights include:

Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education administration, or related field
Direct work experience at the full-time or graduate level within a college or university office of student engagement, student activities, leadership, service, or public service; or similar work within the college or university environment
Experience in program and event planning with a leadership or service focus
Experience with training/workshop development with a leadership focus.
