Reporting to the Director of the Office of New Student Programs, the Associate Director of Orientation Programs assists with the oversight of the department and is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of all Orientation programs including programs for first year and transfer students, as well as parent and family members, totalling more than 16,000 participants annually. This position contributes to the leadership, direction and evaluation of programs offered through the Office of New Student Programs and serves in the absence of the Director on various initiatives. The incumbent will also oversee the implementation of the Welcome to Michigan program as one of two campus co-chairs for the program. The Associate Director will serve on various committees and initiatives dealing with the transitional needs and creating unique orientation experiences for these populations.

Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Office of Enrollment (OEM) division provides campus-wide leadership in executing the strategic recruitment, undergraduate admission, enrollment, new student programs, records management and student financial support functions for the university.
Orientation Programming: (55%)
Direct, plans, implements, coordinates, and assesses a comprehensive orientation, advising and registration program required for all new undergraduate students.
Assists with providing vision and direction for orientation, retention and transition as it relates to all first-year programmatic areas in ONSP.
Provides leadership for orientation programming offered to parents and families
Work closely with schools and colleges, Student Life, and other campus services on program registrations, schedules, collaboration efforts and program logistics.
Responsible for the development and management of virtual orientation modules and content for new students and family members.
Serves on committees that relate to meeting the transitional needs of freshman, transfer students and parents.
Work closely with the OEM Marketing and Communications team around the development of timelines and content for orientation promotional and marketing items, including photo shoots, brochures, newsletters, emails, web pages, etc.
Partners with Information Technology Services and OEM technology team regarding usage of Wolverine Access and Slate CRM. Stays current on new ways to incorporate technology into all Orientation programs.
Assists with managing a budget in excess of $1 million for all Orientation programs.
Manages difficult conversations around meeting the needs of multiple constituents keeping the goals of ONSP, Orientation and the student experience in the forefront of all decisions.
Welcome to Michigan (20%)
Oversee the Welcome to Michigan program, a cross-divisional effort to provide a series of activities between Move-In and the second week of classes.
Co-chairs the Welcome to Michigan planning committee.
Partners closely with campus departments and student affairs units for successful planning and implementation.
Oversees program budget, marketing and promotional materials.
Implements ONSP sponsored events including: New Student Convocation, Block M Big Photo, and New Student Picnic.
Supervision (20%)
Provides oversight and leadership to four Orientation professional staff team members - two Assistant Directors, Administrative Services Coordinator and Program Specialist - and general supervision of other staff as assigned.
Administers performance management. Plans, assigns and reviews work of staff to ensure that group objectives are met.
Manages hiring processes and partners with OEM HR to resolve employee performance and conduct issues.
Other Related Duties (5%)
Assists the Director in accomplishing department goals, and represents the Director in their absence, and in other capacities as needed.
Serves on committees related specifically to meeting the transitional and first-year needs of students.
Participates in and coordinates professional staff training, meetings and projects.
Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or other related field.
Four years of post masters experience planning, implementing and supervising various aspects of orientation programming, as well as working with the freshman, transfer, and parent populations.
Supervisory experience; working knowledge of building effective supervisory and advisory relationships with student and professional staff.
Proven experience working collaboratively and effectively with individuals from a variety of cultural, racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds
Ability to manage and collaborate with multiple partners, on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; the ability to work well in a diverse, fast paced and decentralized environment.
Professional experience working directly with students in a college or university setting.
Ability to work occasional evening and weekend commitments, particularly in the summer.
Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or other related field.

The Office of Enrollment Management requires a hybrid work arrangement of minimally three days on-site and two remote days. Thursdays are required as an on-site work day for all, and this leadership role may require work onsite everyday during certain times of year.
