Wittenberg University seeks a culturally competent licensed or licensed-eligible mental health counselor to provide psychological and support services to students in all university programs, including assessment, short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and outreach services. In addition, the Staff Counselor will provide consultation and outreach programming to the campus staff, faculty and athletic community. The position is part of a multidisciplinary team of mental health and primary care providers within an integrated wellness center. The Staff Counselor will exhibit a commitment to working effectively with students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
This position works five days a week, ten months a year, August 1 - May 31, and is eligible for university benefits.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Provide individual, group, and relationship therapy to students.
Provide emergency counseling, evaluation, and assessment for students in crisis.
Coordinate and collaborate with other student development programs on campus to support historically underserved student populations including: Black/African-American, Indigenous/First Nations, Latinx, Asian American/Pacific Islander, multi-racial, other students of color, international students, and students who identify as LGBTQ.
Provide appropriate mental health assessments for students.
Provide consultation to administrators, faculty, and staff with respect to student issues and mental health concerns, within the bounds of professional ethical principles regarding confidentiality.
Make appropriate academic, career, and mental health referrals to the campus and/or the community.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned such as special projects, programs, developmental activities, etc.
Job Requirements:
Requirements include:
Education: A master's degree or higher in mental health, clinical or counseling psychology, social work, or a closely related field with at least two years of experience in mental health or social services field.
Experience: A minimum of two years experience in individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, education, and consultation are required.
Experience working within a college counseling center strongly preferred.
Certification or licensure or upcoming eligibility as a mental health provider is required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to form strong working and collaborative relationships with students, faculty and staff members.
Ability to relate effectively with diverse members of the university community is essential.
Competency and experience using Microsoft Office software with the ability and desire to learn additional software applications as necessary.
Remain stationary in upright position for more than 50% of the workday.
Regular office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The successful candidate will have the ability to work some flexible hours on evenings and weekends when needed to provide specialized outreach and/or programming opportunities on campus.
