Engineering and Innovation Librarian I/II Continuing
Position Summary
The Michigan State University Libraries (MSUL) is seeking an Engineering and Innovation Librarian to serve as a liaison to programs in the College of Engineering; and the Construction Management Program in the School of Planning, Design, and Construction. The Engineering and Innovation Librarian will also work collaboratively with the Entrepreneurship Librarian and others to support the research and teaching needs of faculty and students involved with entrepreneurship in the College of Engineering, the School of Planning, Design, and Construction, and across campus. As a member of the Sciences Team and reporting to the Sciences Coordinator, the Engineering and Innovation Librarian will partner with liaison units in providing library support for research, teaching, and learning and collaborate with library colleagues, including the Entrepreneurship Librarian at the Gast Business Library.
Engineering faculty at MSU are a community of researchers and teachers, both on campus and around the world, with a focus on global engagement to solve problems. MSU’s extensive opportunities for teaching and learning in the field have been enhanced with the recently opened STEM Teaching and Learning Facility, which emphasizes the importance of classroom and laboratory spaces for gateway science courses, including engineering. In support of these initiatives, the Libraries serve as a center of activity and engagement on campus, with librarians empowered to support both student development and transformative research activities.
The MSU Libraries are closely aligned with teaching and learning innovation on campus and are particularly interested in candidates who are engaged in or excited about innovative teaching methods, particularly as they relate to new and emerging technologies and digital scholarship. The successful candidate will be broadly focused and collaborative, building partnerships with faculty, students, researchers, and other library users. The librarian will participate approximately quarter-time in a secondary assignment based on the needs of the library and candidate interests. Some evening and weekend hours may be required. Essential duties include:
Online, hybrid, and in-classroom instruction within courses
Research support and guidance
Collection development in relevant disciplines, including standards and patents
Consultation and support around the creation, use, and storage of data and data sets as they relate to engineering and entrepreneurship
Librarians are appointed as regular faculty in the continuing appointment system. They are engaged in professional development and scholarly activities related to their position and serve on library and university committees as elected or assigned.

Required Degree
Masters -Library Information Sciences
Minimum Requirements
Master’s degree in information or library science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
Background, interest, or coursework in an area of engineering or the sciences.
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Outstanding interpersonal communication skills including the ability to be flexible in a dynamic and changing environment;
Exceptional commitment to patron and community engagement;
Ability to work collaboratively and independently;
Ability to prioritize and balance various unit needs;
Attention to detail;
Preparation and commitment to conducting independent scholarship consistent with a library faculty appointment;
Capacity and commitment to engage independently in continuing professional development, including learning more about engineering and science resources.

Desired Qualifications
Background, interest, or coursework in entrepreneurship.
Experience in an academic library setting.
Experience with subject specific databases including Compendex and specialized information sources such as patents
Experience in or familiarity with managing data or developing data management plans.
Knowledge of or familiarity with teaching practices in engineering
