The Highlights:
The Health Promotion Coordinator will report to the Director in the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness and be responsible for the supervision and support of the peer health educator team, office assistants and Graduate Interns. This position is responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating health education and messaging consistent with DePaul University's Catholic, Vincentian, and urban identity. Such education includes campus-wide initiatives and communications, as well as activities designed for unique student populations. It requires extensive collaboration with the HPW Specialists and university and community partners to ensure all efforts are successful and students have access to the appropriate resources. This position will provide holistic individual support, resources and education to members of the DePaul community around including substance use/misuse, sexual and relationship violence, stress, mental health and eating disorders.
What You'll Do:
Supervise and support the Peer Health Educator team, Graduate Interns and Office Assistants * Supervise 6-8 undergraduate peer health educators, OAs and Graduate Interns * Collaborate directly with HPW Specialists on events, programs, messaging campaigns, particularly as it relates to HEAT and the GHIs; Attend weekly peer education team meetings; Attend events as needed * Ensure accuracy and consistency of educational messaging and materials across HPW * Develop and implement annual and ongoing HEAT training; Hire peer health educators, Assistants and Graduate Interns
Provide holistic health messaging and outreach to members of the DePaul community in domains such as: preventative health care, body image, stress management, mental health, substance use/misuse, sexual health, and sexual and relationship violence as well as further broad-scale messaging campaigns * Maintain, develop and distribute print- and web-based educational resources on health promotion and wellness * Oversee social media health promotion strategies and content; Strategically further the Take Care DePaul campaign * Collaborate with HPW Specialists to ensure accurate content and messaging consistency * Assist in the message related to responding to campus health related issues (e.g. flu, contagious disease) * Coordinate targeted outreach and messaging to underrepresented populations including students of color, first generation students and other marginalized groups; Coordinate messaging across campus during national awareness months * Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to health promotion/ wellness
Plan, implement and evaluate health promotion and wellness education campus-wide to promote student wellness in domains such as: preventative health care, body image, stress management, mental health, substance use/misuse, sexual health, and sexual and relationship violence * Support HEAT in planning and facilitating educational activities that are designed to promote student wellness * Collaborate with HPW Specialists on programs particularly in areas of substance use/misuse and violence prevention * Collaborate with university and community partners as needed to provide successful programs and resources to students * Facilitate substance use/misuse prevention, sexual violence prevention & mental wellness/stress mgt presentations * Conduct training for campus leaders (e.g. STARS Peer Mentors, Orientation Leaders, Resident Advisors, Chicago Quarter Mentors) on various health related topics as needed; Develop and measure the learning outcomes for educational programs * Coordinate quarterly Brain Fuel Week on both campuses; Coordinate HIV and STI testing initiative on both campuses * Serve on committees; keep data and write annual report for the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness
Provide holistic support, advocacy and intervention to members of the DePaul community as it relates to other health and wellness issues such as sexual and relationship violence, stress, mental health and eating disorders * Respond to incidents of sexual assault and serves as an advocate for students who have experienced sexual assault or relationship violence including making appropriate on and off campus referrals and understanding Title IX reporting and related university processes; Complete 40 hour Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention/ 40 Hour Domestic Violence trainings * Provide holistic support and resources for students on a variety of issues including stress, mental health, substance use/misuse and eating disorders including making the appropriate on and off campus referrals
This position provides direct supervision to student employees.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor's Degree required.
Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Public Health or related field preferred.
1 to 2 years of professional experience required in health communication, education, community health, public health or counseling or related field required.
Strong computer skills required.
Experience working with Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
Experience with utilizing quantitative and qualitative data preferred.
Occasional evening and weekend duties will be required throughout the course of the year.
