Berkeley Law Student Services provides a wide range of support for the law school's student populations, which includes over 1200 JD, JSP, JSD, and LLM students. Students are encouraged to come to Student Services to discuss academic plans, questions about the profession, personal concerns, and summer planning. The office includes the Dean of Students, the Senior Director of Student Services, the Assistant Director for Student Services, Accessible Education, the Exams Administrator and the Student Services Administrator. The office works as a team to support student life at Berkeley Law, including meeting with students one-on-one and coordinating large student events.
This position involves a wide range of student services duties and responsibilities for UC Berkeley School of Law. The Director of Inclusion and Wellness provides assistance to students in academic advising, and personal counseling, student orientation and events, career counseling, and related programs. The role will also provide counseling and advice to targeted students and provide referrals to organization and community resources. The Director of Inclusion and Wellness will create and provide programming designed to improve the quality of students' experience, with a specific focus on equity and inclusion; work in collaboration with other units to cultivate and enhance inclusion in the Law School community; hold regular meetings with the Affinity Group leaders; take the lead on wellness programming for students, including Mindful Mondays and Mental Health Awareness week; and provide academic and personal counseling services to the general law student population.

Applying professional Student Services concepts, provides the full range of student services to student population served by the law school:
Provides academic and personal advising to individual students for the entire student body.
Serves as primary contact for historically underserved student populations (e.g., low-income, first-generation college, underrepresented populations, etc.).
Conducts degree audits to ensure timely completion; Reviews students' progress and advises students on requirements for J.D. degree completion.
Assist students with alternative academic options and other similar issues.
Identifies students with progression problems and recommends interventions.
Advises Dean of Students about curriculum planning.
Participates in planning academic curriculum in collaboration with Dean of Students and Senior Director of Student Services to ensure academic students' progress and ensure compliance with ABA policies.
Serves as subject matter expert on law student wellbeing:
In collaboration with Assistant Dean and Senior Director of Student Services, develops, organizes and delivers programs to address law student wellness.
Advises individual students and student groups about wellness, balance, and stress management, and connects students with outside resources where appropriate.
Refers students to appropriate specialized programs and resources.
Events Planning, Programming & Coordination:
Leads and directs a wide variety of projects and follows through with all levels of staff and individuals inside and outside the organization.
Collaborates with other professionals to plan for major events such as Orientation, Commencement, and Admitted Students Weekend.
Serves as lead on Mental Health Awareness Week and the Third Day of Orientation, including conception, design, development, coordination, implementation, and post-event evaluation.
Designs, coordinates and implements Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) initiatives, activities, and other programming at Orientation and Admitted Students Weekend.
Oversees and plans programs and training sessions with students, staff, and faculty to promote the school's effort to build and maintain an environment that is inclusive, pluralistic, and diverse.
Advises Student groups about registration, reimbursements, and intergroup dynamics.
Regularly convenes meetings of Affinity Group Leaders.
Hosts events, including transitionary retreat for leaders.
Works with academic departments, faculty, and department management to help resolve specific student academic issues.
Assists in interpreting campus policies and advising students and faculty on student conduct, student grievances, and disputes.
Helps students develop strategies to solve academic and personal problems.
Participates in professional development and training opportunities as needed.
Keeps abreast of student trends in higher education, particularly wellness, inclusion, and historically underserved college populations.
Performs additional duties within the scope of this classification as assigned.
Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques.
Knowledge of or ability to learn University-specific computer application programs including Cal Central and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $75,000.00 - $95,000.00.
This is a 100% full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits.
This position is exempt and paid monthly.
This position is eligible to work remotely up to one (1) day per week.
