Position Summary
The Receptionist receives and greets office or departmental visitors, University employees, and students, and directs them to the appropriate offices or persons utilizing organizational familiarity and necessary discretion. The Receptionist provides general campus wide information and answers the telephone, takes messages or routes calls according to office procedures, and makes appointments and/or maintains an appointment calendar. The Receptionist performs basic and varied clerical tasks which may include computer data entry, filing, and operating standard office machines and equipment. The Receptionist schedules and supervises student workers to assist with the Reception Desk.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2024, with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated as non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
SDSU Imperial Valley is a campus/college of San Diego State University serving the desert area of southeastern California. It is accredited as an integral unit of SDSU and operates under the same governance structure and university policies. Established in 1959 by an act of the State Legislature, SDSU IV offers its programs at two locations in Imperial County: Calexico and Brawley. Offering four-year and two-year undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, and post-baccalaureate credential programs, SDSU Imperial Valley helps matriculated students achieve their higher education goals. Currently, SDSU IV employs 145 faculty and staff members.
The Imperial Valley Campus is administered by the Dean of the Campus, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Student Affairs, the Imperial Valley Campus Administrator, the Associate Director of Development, and the Assistant Director for Facilities Services & Projects.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires fundamental written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; an ability to understand standard office procedures; an ability to operate standard office equipment; an ability to learn office technology systems; an ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; and typing and keyboard skills. These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through completion of a high school program or its equivalent and some experience in an office environment.
Key Qualifications
Experience with Google email, Google Calendars, Zoom, Excel Spreadsheets, Word, and PowerPoint Presentations
Experience in handling high volume of traffic at the same time (in-person, phone call and emails)
Professional attitude and excellent written and verbal communication skills
Associate's Degree in Public Administration or Business Administration is preferred
Two years of experience as a receptionist or Administrative Assistant or Clerical is preferred
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,439 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,338 - $4,913 per month.
