SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Director of Advising & Retention will assist in providing leadership to the Advising Department with a focus on advisor training, operational management and assessment of student learning and satisfaction. They will manage the advising and retention components of student success technology. The Assistant Director will be a liaison across campus to facilitate the delivery of a holistic advising experience inclusive of academic, career and transfer advising to new and returning students.
OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.
INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:
Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with the advising of students in accordance with the department’s advising model.
In the absence of the Director, provide leadership to the Advising Department.
Collaborate with other EMSS departments and other campus divisions to implement student success programming, with a particular emphasis on guided pathways.
Provide operational management to the Advising Department including, scheduling, queue management, and assessment and revision of the method of service delivery.
Supervise part time Academic Advisors and others, as needed.
Coordinate on-boarding and professional development for the Advising Department and advising related needs across campus.
Facilitate technology training for systems used by Advising team, including but not limited to Student Information System, Retention System, Queue Management, virtual meetings platforms, and google suit.
Provide direct support and coordination for development & assessment of learning outcomes in compliance with current Middle States standards.
Work with the Director of Advising on continued assessment and integration of the retention system, including retention alerts and training across campus.
Assist with the use of predictive analytics and data analysis to facilitate data driven decisions for the Advising Department.
Assist with the coordination of retention related outreach, meeting with institutionally targeted populations.
Assist with the identification and completion of Advising and Retention department goals in coordination with the Director and Advising team.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Required:
Master’s Degree in Counseling, College Student Personnel, Higher Education, or related field.
Experience Required:
Direct experience with the delivery of academic advising in a higher education setting with preferred experience with student transfer at the 2- or 4-year level.
Experience in development of student learning outcomes and assessment.
Experience in program and workshop development.
Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated leadership in student services, higher education, or a related field.
Experience supporting at-risk, probationary, first generation, and / or transfer students.
