Job Overview
The Learning Commons provides centralized academic support for University of Cincinnati students. The Learning Commons also provides campus-wide leadership around innovative and evidence-based programming to increase student success from first-year to post-baccalaureate preparation and coursework.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement and Undergraduate Affairs, the selected candidate will direct unit initiatives in collaboration with the leadership team, campus stakeholders, the Learning Commons Advisory Council, and critical partners in the Office of the Provost.
In support of the broader goals and vision of campus and Undergraduate Affairs, the Director of the Learning Commons contributes to leadership within the division of Undergraduate Affairs. This includes identifying and implementing strategic collaboration across units such as the Faculty Enrichment Center and the Center of the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CET&L), as well as partners such as the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies (CCPS), relevant academic departments, and other units and departments across campus.
Essential Functions
The Director of the Learning Commons will oversee centralized operations and strategic planning for all Learning Commons programming. This includes:
Collaboratively researching, creating, and implementing strategic and operational planning for the unit, including mission and vision for the office.
Professional supervision and development of Learning Commons leadership team members and centralized office support staff.
Representing Learning Commons expertise and unit capabilities via university- or division-wide committees, initiatives, or standing groups.
Coordination of resources, outcomes, and evaluations across office programming areas reporting to Assistant and Associate Directors.
Implementation of innovative, efficient, and evidence-based interventions.
Development and allocation of annual budgets, budget priorities, budget projections, and expense reporting and summaries.
Consistent, rigorous, and timely assessment of program impact.
Collaborating with identified researchers to implement, assess, and publish on innovative practices to support student success.
Collaborating with university stakeholders to ensure contextualized, high-quality first-year experience and student success programming.
The Director of the Learning Commons will supervise and direct professional staff implementing:
Student success programming targeting academic skills and content expertise, peer education, faculty supports, first-year success and campus transition, service-learning relative to academic development, and non-cognitive academic success skills.
Strategic campus marketing for faculty, staff, students, and family.
Rigorous program assessments and research in collaboration with Undergraduate Affairs and relevant faculty to drive continuous improvement and positively impact outcomes.
Cost-shared programming in conjunction with critical stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree with a minimum of five (5) years of higher education experience (seven or more); terminal degree.
Ten (10) years of relevant and progressive management experience.
Ability to work collaboratively to solve complex questions and make clear decisions, with significant experience managing large staff and budgetary resources.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Team-centered, empathetic approach to leadership that fosters inclusive discussion and clear expectations.
Demonstrated commitment to student development, success, responsible citizenship and experience in building strong student relationships.
Demonstrated ability to use qualitative and quantitative data and feedback to drive continuous improvement and goal-setting.
