GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Facilitates a campus environment that creates and maintains a cultural, social, and academic environment to foster the growth and development of students. Offers a range of student opportunities, activities, and services that integrate with other university areas and initiatives. Plans, organizes, and directs the Office of Student Development in fostering social, cultural, service and recreational activities, commuter student-focused programming and services, orientation, volunteer opportunities, the Falcon Bazaar & Necessities Pantry and Clothing Closet, student clubs and organizations, and managing the Hammond Campus Center.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Promote and strengthen student success through student engagement and student learning goals and develop a coordinated, collaborative, and efficient approach to co-curricular and extra-curricular programming and support services, including a focus on student activities that enhance the academic and co-curricular programming across all divisions of the university.
Oversee the planning, organization and implementation of the Hammond Campus Center and services including but not limited to:
Operations and scheduling
Applying for and holding the Pub License
Monitoring expenditures, income and expenses
Reviewing and recommending contracts, according to college policy
Collaborating with Capital Planning and Maintenance on the physical aspects of the building
Attending to the building’s technology and furnishings.
Ensure that commuter students receive targeted services and opportunities specific to their needs and contexts.
Review and revise practices, publications, and policies for effectiveness and with an equity lens.
Direct Summer Orientation, Transfer Orientation, Online Orientation, Fall Orientation, and Winter Orientation programs.
Advise the Student Government Association.
Take a leading role in facilitating the campus-wide Homecoming Committee and other university events.
Ensure support services for fraternities, sororities, student organizations, and their advisors.
Oversee WXPL student radio, monitoring expenses, budget, licensing, and other fiscal matters.
Maintain and use appropriate records and data regarding the Office of Student Development, such as annual goals, objectives, and key performance indicators, along with assessment; budget; evaluations; event costs and attendance; annual report; CAS reviews of functional areas within the department.
Support the implementation of summer conferences.
Provide rotation coverage for evening and weekend events and activities.
Supervise professional, classified, graduate, and student staff.
Other duties as assigned.
Examples include but are not limited to:
Represent the Department, Vice President for Student Affairs, and/or Division of Student Affairs on campus-wide committees, initiatives as interested or assigned.
Maintain a flexible work schedule, which includes evening and weekend responsibilities to foster student engagement.
Lead diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging initiatives in alignment with the university’s mission and guiding documents such as the Strategic Plan.
Support the First-Year Experience and Retention Initiatives.
Serve as University Essential Personnel.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (Master’s strongly preferred) and at least five years of progressively responsible experience, in student development or related field.
Knowledge of higher education principles, practices and procedures required.
Knowledge of the tenets of diversity, equity, and inclusion work and social justice education and the ability to appropriately and effectively understand and adapt to cultural differences within a group environment.
Highly developed skills and experience with planning, coordinating, and facilitating projects/programs.
Ability to collaborate with academic departments and university partners required.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing required.
Ability to work effectively with professional, classified, and student personnel required.
Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of students required.
Familiarity with FERPA regulations and matters of confidentiality.
Familiarity with the Curricular Approach to Student Affairs is a plus.
Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI check), SORI and background check satisfactory to the university.
