Job Summary: | The Marist College Education Department seeks candidates for the position of Program Director, Master of Arts in Teaching and Professional Lecturer of Education to begin in Fall 2024.
We welcome candidates with a passion for preparing future P-12 teachers. This position oversees the 5-year Adolescence/Students with Disabilities Education program (grades 7-12) and offers guidance and vision for this important area of teacher preparation.
The MAT students are prepared to be competent, confident, and successful teachers from the very first moment they step into their classrooms. The students benefit from small, intimate classes, dynamic classroom conversations, and readily accessible faculty. The diverse faculty members challenge the students to grow as future leaders and educators. Assignments are timely, relevant, and geared toward the professional development of our students.
We are excited to announce the opening in fall of 2024 of the fully renovated Dyson building which will include a state-of-the art STEM/Teaching Methods classroom with adjoining Maker Space. |
Minimum Qualifications: | The successful candidate will have (1) a doctorate degree in Adolescence- Secondary Education or a related field, (2) teacher certification, (3) teaching experience in P-12 schools, and (4) a student-centered approach to preparing future educators. Applicants should be able to model culturally responsive pedagogical approaches across all courses and foster inclusive classroom environments. |
Essential Functions: | Administrative Responsibilities: - Conducts formal review of all MAT students in the junior year
- Advises all candidates in the MAT program
- Identifies student teaching placements for all MAT students; assists with additional field placements as needed
- Maintains positive relationships with P-12 partner schools
- Meets regularly with the 8 content area departments on campus to maintain open lines of communication about any program developments and support student advising
- Hires all part time faculty associated with the MAT program to teach courses; to be student teacher supervisors; and/or to be cooperating teachers
- Provides orientation for students in MAT program
- Provides orientation for part time faculty who serve as supervisors or cooperating teachers
- Updates handbook for student teachers and facilitates student teaching seminars
- Certification officer for MAT students; remains current with relevant NYSED regulations
- With support from the Assessment Coordinator, maintains assessment system for MAT program
- Entitled to a 50% reduction in teaching course load for administrative work
Lecturer Responsibilities: - Total 12-credit course load across both semesters (6:6)
- Participates in department, school, and full faculty meetings and engages in key initiatives at all these levels
- Engages in professional activity, as relevant to the position

Preferred Qualifications: | Preferred qualifications include: - At least 3-5 years of classroom teaching P-16
- At least 3 years of administrative experience in a teacher preparation program
- Expertise in curriculum development

- College pays 100% tuition only.
- Eligible dependents may be Reimbursed up to $2,000 per semester towards tuition at another accredited institution.

About the Department/School: | The Education Department is a member of the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences along with departments for psychology, criminal justice, and social work. The Education Department offers a variety of teacher preparation programs including: (1) elementary education, grades 1-6, with dual certification for students with disabilities (2) a birth through second grade add-on teacher certification, and (3) adolescence education, grades 7 – 12, with dual certification for students with disabilities in eight content areas (English, math, social studies, biology, chemistry, earth science, Spanish, and French). The department also offers two master’s level degrees: The MS in Education, Contemporary Curriculum & Instruction, and the MAT.
