Position Summary:

• Teach three sections of sixth-grade English, one section of a seventh-grade writing course, and one section of Upper School American Literature
• Work collaboratively with English department members to ensure a consistent delivery of curriculum
• Serve as a faculty co-advisor to approximately 8 – 10 middle school students

• Anticipated start date: Mid-December 2023 / January 3, 2024 (LCDS winter break is December 20, 2023 - January 2, 2024)

• Anticipated end date: March 2024

Responsibilities:

• Organizes classroom systems/procedures and manages student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learning
• Establishes a culture of high expectations that includes college preparation for all students
• Develops and implements lesson plans and classroom activities in association with other English department members
• Works collaboratively with the sixth grade team of teachers and the middle school faculty and administration
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, caregivers, administration, and colleagues
• Assesses students regularly, ensuring consistency between and among teachers of the same subject matter
• Works to build and sustain an inclusive and equitable environment for all members of our school community
• Examines student assessment data and refines classroom activities to differentiate instruction for each student
• Collaborates closely with other faculty members (departmental, grade-level, and school-wide) to align curriculum across subjects, to improve one’s own and others’ instructional practices, and to share best practices
• Provides students and their families with regular and timely information on classroom activities and student progress; finds ways to involve parents and caregivers in their children's’ education
• Tracks critical student information and maintains accurate student records, including attendance
• Co-leads a MS student advisory group
• Participates actively in professional development activities
• Participates actively in the life of the school, including assuming co-curricular and extra-curricular duties as necessary and appropriate
• Performs other related duties as required and assigned 

• Bachelors’ degree (English or Humanities preferred)
• At least three years middle school teaching experience preferred
• Desire to be part of building the larger school culture and community, particularly with regard to diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Ability and desire to prepare all students for a rich and challenging Upper School curriculum and eventual entrance into an appropriate college or university
