Under the general supervision of the Director for College Support Programs and the daily work direction of the Educational Opportunity Programs Associate Director, the EOP Admissions and Retention Advisor performs moderately complex professional student services work in the areas of EOP admissions process for first-time freshmen (FTF) and transfer students. The Admissions and Retention Advisor provides students with support to facilitate the EOP admissions process for low-income and first-generation college students. The incumbent works as a team member with fellow EOP advisors and staff to provide student services to EOP students and, EOP applicants and prospective applicants not yet attending the university. The EOP is designed to improve access and retention support of low-income and educationally disadvantaged students. The program provides admission, academic, and financial assistance to EOP-eligible undergraduate students.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Reviews, sorts, and ranks all EOP applicants and makes decisions concerning the admission of applicants to the EOP program based upon confidential academic transcripts, recommendation letters, and the completed EOP application. Recommends solutions to system issues and changes in program procedures.
Monitors and coordinates the EOP admissions process, including the completion of electronic EOP files. Communicates with prospective EOP eligible applicants, parents, counselors, and other appropriate stakeholders through appointment, telephone, email and other materials. Maintains complete and accurate admissions data. Send acceptance, waitlisted and rejection letters to all EOP applicants.
Conduct outreach to EOP applicants to follow up regarding incomplete applications and missing information. Consistently follow up with EOP applicants to ensure a successful matriculation utilizing advising and retention strategies. Support with updating all EOP electronic media including the EOP website to ensure all outreach and recruitment information regarding EOP is up to date. Represent EOP at outreach and recruitment events such as presentations regarding EOP, university admissions requirements, tabling at high schools, community colleges and other public forums.
Assists EOP in efforts to be electronically and technologically upgraded, including automating the EOP admissions process, and testing and troubleshooting system issues. Serve as EOP's liaison to the Office of Admissions and Student Information Systems departments.
Coordinate the planning and implementation of the EOP Summer Bridge Program to include but not limited the registration and matriculation in key courses, and the development of programming to support first-year student's transition into the university. In addition, support all aspects of the planning and development of EOP Transfer Bridge.
Performs other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior; procedures and activities of the program to which assigned; general knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management. General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.
Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements; obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews; reason logically; collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data; advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required; recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi-aged value systems and work accordingly; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts; and, rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.
Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job- related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Second language fluency. Bilingual in English/Spanish. Technical fluency with Banner, Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent student information system; Microsoft Office Professional Suite, and Google mail and calendaring programs. Experience working with a diverse and multicultural population and performing community services.

Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California, pass the Defensive Training Class, and be insurable under the University's liability coverage.
May require occasional evenings and/or weekend work.
Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. The position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
