Student Life is seeking a director of residence life to plan, organize and direct a comprehensive residence life program. This twelve-month position manages collaborative efforts with various offices to provide educational and social programming, the development and supervision of the operations budget, as well as provide general supervision for all professional and student staff in the department.
Salem State University manages five residential communities and an upper-class apartment style complex with an annual budget of more than $20 million. The director manages a comprehensive residential curriculum to promote student engagement and create community. Additionally, this person maintains effective and responsive outreach, care, and critical incident/crisis response processes. A significant amount of collaboration with campus partners such as Admissions, Facilities, First Year Experience and Counseling and Health Services is involved.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in related field
A minimum of five (5) years of leadership and supervision of full-time staff and experience in Residence Life or similar student affairs position
Knowledge of structure, practices and procedures of college student governance
Thorough knowledge of student personnel administration with particular emphasis on residence hall operations and student activities planning
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous supervisory experience of mid-level residence life staff
Ability to communicate and work effectively with professional, classified and student staff
Working Conditions:
This is an on-site, in-person position which requires a flexible work schedule and includes occasional evenings and weekends.
Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 5-10 pounds.
