Job Summary:
The Assistant Director of Academic Advising reports to the Senior Director - Academic Advising & Student Success and is part of a leadership team that is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and assessment of the Khoury College of Computer Sciences Undergraduate Advising Services. The Assistant Director works in partnership with the Sr. Director in hiring, supervising, and training staff under the
developmental/appreciative advising model; supports implementation of advising-related technology; provides academic advisement to students as needed; coordinates special advising related projects to support student retention, equity, college and university goals, and best practices in advising. It is critical that the Assistant Director works to foster a welcoming, nurturing, and belonging environment for all students, including those underrepresented in the computer sciences.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree and 3- 5 years of experience in a higher education advising setting; strong administrative, organizational, analytical, and communication skills; strong knowledge and competence in technology and systems; ability to analyze quantitative data; ability to both take initiative and to work as a member of a team; ability to represent the college in a variety of settings with both internal and external constituencies. Previous supervisory, management, or leadership experience is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in day to day management of Undergraduate Advising: Help provide day-to-day management of the Undergraduate Advising team; hire, supervise, and train Academic Advisors; manage review process of Academic Advisors; represent college's perspective and concerns in University-wide committees, as well as ad hoc committees; help Advising team troubleshoot issues relating to students and parents.
Program Development and Special Projects: Collaborate with the director while working to increase the quality of student support programs, student life within the college, and equity among student populations. Collaborate with the director to identify and develop college retention strategies and programs that support college and university goals. Implement strategic advising plans based on assessment and evaluation of programs and analysis of data.
Academic Advising and Advising Related Activities: Maintain a small caseload of students. Provide overall guidance to students on their academic goals. Interpret and explain academic policies and procedures to students; advise on college curricular matters; monitor students' academic progress through graduation; manage and oversee Khoury Advising email account.
