Stanford Career Education invites inquiries and applications for the position of Assistant Director of Career Coaching and Education - Humanities and Sciences (& Education), at 50% FTE, part year position (10 months). Through individual and group career coaching, departmental relationship building, and career-focused resource creation, the Assistant Director of Career Coaching and Education assists students in identifying and pursuing professional pathways as they progress along their developmental journey.
This is a two-year fixed term position reporting directly to the Associate Director of Career Coaching and Education - Humanities and Sciences (& Education). As a member of the Humanities and Sciences (& Education) career coaching team, the Assistant Director will play a key role in supporting undergraduate and master's students and recent alumni as they identify and pursue careers of meaning, purpose, and impact. Their contributions will further the ability of Stanford Career Education to connect students and recent alumni to career-focused information, impactful advisors and mentors, and experiential learning opportunities.
* Provide both in-person and virtual career coaching and education to undergraduate and master's students and recent alumni in the School of Humanities and Sciences, as well as master's students in the Graduate School of Education
* Develop and facilitate in-person and virtual workshops and programs to address the career needs of students and recent alumni, both individually and in collaboration with Career Coaching and Education staff; analyze program effectiveness and make strategic recommendations for future programs
* Maintain and further relationships with assigned academic departments and programs within the School of Humanities and Sciences, in an effort to facilitate deeper connections between students, CareerEd, and the School of Humanities and Sciences
* Collaborate with career coaches and Assistant Director for Career Analytics to assess and evaluate student appointments, programs, and events for effectiveness and ongoing improvement
* Incorporate knowledge and understanding of the intersection of social and professional identities within the context of career development into career coaching interactions and approaches
* Apply developing knowledge and understanding of career and identity development theories, including but not limited to Student Development Theory, into career coaching interactions and student support efforts
* Actively engage in research to strengthen understanding and use of core Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) theories and practices, regional and national economies job markets, and student career development
Qualifications
Successful applicants will have demonstrated ability and experience to clearly and effectively communicate with individuals with wide-ranging social identities and backgrounds, particularly in the context of professional identity development and career pathway exploration. This person will be an effective listener who is able to share an understanding of how students develop over the course of their undergraduate/master's education. They will be able to detail how to support students in translating curricular and co-curricular experiences to potential career opportunities.
Additionally, they will bring:
* A bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience
* Demonstrated desire and experience in community development, program planning and execution, group facilitation and engagement, and coaching/advising college students and alumni
* Knowledge of trends in career development, DEIB, economy, effective interventions, technology, and higher education networks and/or a willingness to learn these skills
* Multicultural awareness and competence; ability to work in a diverse environment and serve constituents from a wide variety of backgrounds
* Entrepreneurial, creative, and innovative spirit; comfort navigating change, managing reasonable ambiguity and risk in an evolving work environment
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to review and analyze complex information
* Advanced customer service skills
* Relevant computer systems/technology experience, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
* Understanding of financial transactions
* Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations
* Organizational abilities

WORKING CONDITIONS:
* This is a hybrid position which requires 1-2 days of on-site work per week, with advanced notice being provided for additional days as needed to meet student and departmental needs.
* This position requires occasional, yet infrequent, work on evenings and weekends.

The expected pay range for this position is $86,000 to $103,000 per annum. The actual pay will be pro-rated based on the 50% FTE.
