The Associate/Assistant Dean for Undergraduate programs (ADUG) primary role is to support the School of Nursing's academic mission by providing leadership, oversight, and direction across the undergraduate (BS, ABS, RN/BS) programs operating in the School of Nursing.

The School of Nursing is seeking a visionary leader who can inspire faculty, is a strategic thinker, continues to build and expand enrollment and community partnerships, and engages with leadership and faculty across the University at Buffalo as the School positions itself for continued growth and expansion across our shared education, research, and practice/service missions.

The ADUG builds, maintains, and sustains a collaborative working environment with the school's faculty and with students enrolled in undergraduate programs. This includes guiding and refining the implementation of the new AACN Essentials into the curriculum to meet national, state/agency (NYSED), and SUNY educational and accreditation standards for entry level pre/post licensure undergraduate students.

The ADUG is a member of the Executive Leadership Team (Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA), Associate Dean for Research (ADR), and Sr. Assistant Dean for Administration and Finance (ADAF)) and reports directly to the ADAA. The ADUG works with the Office of Student Affairs/Services, Simulation Services and Interprofessional Education team, the Educational Staff Service Support team and interfaces with accreditation and professional licensing entities, Information Technology Services that manages computer/audiovisual technology and the learning management system (Brightspace) to maintain undergraduate program excellence.

Responsibilities:

Provides overall leadership and implements the strategic vision across the undergraduate programs (BS, ABS, RN-BS) to ensure academic excellence and compliance of all programs with applicable accreditation and licensing requirements consistent with an R1 AAU research intensive university.

Collaborates with Assistant Deans and Chairs/Directors in the School of Nursing and Academic leaders across the university (Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of

the Graduate School, Dean of Undergraduate Education etc.) regarding curriculum implementation, operational efficiency, Honors College, and innovative academic programming.

Manages resources wisely to ensure efficiency and fiscal responsibility while maximizing opportunities for innovation and expansion.

Recruits and retains highly qualified clinical track and adjunct faculty to achieve excellent educational outcomes for students.

Assigns and balances faculty course workload to achieve educational, research, and practice/service goals.

Works with faculty engaged in interprofessional education, simulation, and other educational opportunities to maximize instructional opportunities across programs.

Works with student leaders as needed to engage students in student organizations and obtain feedback and/or place students on school committees consistent with faculty bylaws to advance the leadership development, educational attainment, inclusive excellence, and foster research capacity of students.

Works with the Dean and other members of the leadership team to plan, design, implement, and innovate new programs/course offerings for students, plan and hold annual faculty retreats and develop faculty programming for mentoring and work with the Unit Diversity Officer (UDO).

Responsible for external and internal oversight of student handbook, course materials, and published academic materials for faculty and students sharing and use to support educational objectives across undergraduate programs.

Develops, modifies, and maintains school and academic policies as needed to support educational objectives, maintain/achieve accreditation standards, and comply with licensing requirements.

Works with faculty to obtain external funding from Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), or other components of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support innovative programmatic expansion and excellence in undergraduate programs.

Meets with other ADUG at UB and serve on the Associate Deans Councils across decanal units to advance the outcomes and innovate new programs, develop university wide policies, and share/disseminate information with members of the SON as appropriate.

Engages with the Vice Provosts and Deans of the other Undergraduate Schools regarding curriculum, students, enrollment, faculty, and student issues as needed to achieve program outcomes.

Undergraduate Enrollment Management

Meets as needed as part of the enrollment management team to recruit and retain excellent students with attention to achieving the goals of holistic enrollment to ensure that the SON provides an equitable and inclusive environment for diverse students, understanding that diversity encompasses a wide range of factors, including race, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, veteran status, and other important factors (e.g., first generation attendance and economic security).

Monitors student progress, retention, and completion across the programs.

Tracks program metrics for graduation success, time to completion, outcomes and diversity.

Undergraduate Accreditation and Licensing

Provides leadership for accreditation, licensing, site visits, self-studies, and other required documents and activities as needed to meet, implement, and maintain SUNY, CCNE, AACN, NYSED and NY State Office of Professions standards/requirements.

Reviews, monitors, and evaluates program performance to lead and meet implementation of accreditation standards across accrediting entities and licensing agencies.

Provides oversight regarding curriculum evaluation and implementation.

Prepares reports for review by the Dean and leadership team as needed to meet accreditation/reaccreditation requirements.

Monitors student performance on state/national licensing exams for quality outcomes.

Undergraduate Advising and Student Services

Provides oversight to direct advising and student services for pre-admitted/admitted undergraduate students.

Provides oversight for recruitment of undergraduate students across programs and deployment of resources to ensure successful pool of applicants across programs.

Serve as a point of contact and provides oversight for any issues that impact undergraduate student success across programs including student progression, grade changes, grievances, double major requests, Academic Integrity, and student athletic team participation.

Works with the Office of Student Affairs to provide oversight of scholarship and awards to students consistent with SON and university policies.

Celebrates and promotes student/faculty success across the School of Nursing undergraduate programs, in the community, among the alumni, with the media and across professional organizations and colleagues.

Undergraduate Faculty Development

Provides oversight to ensure undergraduate faculty development/mentorship for junior/senior faculty to advance in the development of their teaching and classroom performance.

Works with the Dean and Executive Leadership Team to develop and coordinate a mentoring program to support faculty in pursuit of promotion.

Provides oversight to engage all faculty in developing, progressing, and meeting faculty academic scholarship goals consistent with a R1/AAU research intensive program with respect to their undergraduate/clinical faculty appointment.

Undergraduate Evaluation and Assessment

Provides overall oversight and guidance for annual evaluation of courses, programs, faculty, students and staff to achieve educational and practice/service goals of the SON.

Works with the Office of Student Affairs and Director of Academic Operations regarding student faculty evaluation, monitors NCLEX pass rates, reporting of undergraduate program data for annual AACN, NYSED, and US News survey reporting,

Technology, Simulation, and Learning Management System

Works with the information technology (IT) team regarding the use of computer and information systems to support operation of undergraduate educational programs and delivery of the curriculum.

Assess, manage and evaluate the capacity of software to meet programmatic needs for education, research, scholarly productivity, and student progression for undergraduate programs.

Recommend securing and adaptation of new software, resources, and equipment to support effective delivery of the undergraduate curriculum and services to advance the strategic goals of the SON.

Practice and Community Partnerships

Coordinate with the Dean and other academic unit leaders in nursing to facilitate and expand practice opportunities and community partnerships to support the academic, research and practice mission for undergraduate students and faculty in the SON.

Engage with practice and community partners to secure clinical placements, obtain in-scholarship support, and maintain academic-practice partnership relations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Registered nurse licensed (or license eligible) to practice in the State of New York.

CV consistent to hold the rank of Professor/Associate Professor (tenured/tenure eligible) or Clinical Professor/Associate Professor at the University at Buffalo and qualify as a member of the Graduate Faculty.

Evidence of a sustained and progressive record of academic leadership and scholarly productivity at the national level.

Prior administrative, teaching, research and clinical practice experience involving the successful management of faculty, students and/or professional staff.

Demonstrated experience leading in a complex organizational environment.

Prior experience as an Associate/Assistant Dean or Department chair in an Undergraduate and/or Graduate Programs.

Ability to organize, inspire, support, and build effective teams to advance the missions of the SON; listen and build consensus among varied constituents; promote innovation and manage change; respond to and manage difficult conversations to achieve outcomes and improve the School of Nursing.

Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the Dean and SON leadership, faculty, staff, and students to advance UB's mission to become a top 25 public research university.

Prior experience expanding, supporting and/or developing and implementing new academic programs.

Experience developing and sustaining collaborative partnerships.

Strong communication skills across students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners to achieve strategic outcomes.

Prior budget experience, including responsibility for building and sustaining fiscal soundness of academic operations.
